The post falsely suggested that Disney was considering Edebiri as a potential replacement for Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean 6.

More recently, Edebiri posted a screenshot on Instagram Stories of Elon Musk sharing what appeared to be a false update from an account about X. It’s worth noting that this post suggested Edebiri was being considered by Disney as a possible replacement for Johnny Depp in Pirates 6. In his caption, Musk wrote, “Disney is terrible.
Edebiri stated that she received some of the most extreme death threats and racial slurs in her life, which she considers one of her top three most memorable moments, due to a fake reboot of a movie she had never heard about. This man was responsible for this, causing her to laugh out loud (LOL). She went on to say that not only is he a bigot and fascist, but he’s also an idiot.
The Opus actress added at the bottom of her Story, “Life is, of course, a gift.”
Significantly, Johnny Depp has portrayed Captain Jack Sparrow in every Pirates of the Caribbean film to date: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Dead Man’s Chest, At World’s End, On Stranger Tides, and Dead Men Tell No Tales. For quite some time now, there have been many rumors about a possible sixth Pirates film. In December 2024, it emerged that franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer was developing two distinct Pirates scripts. One of these projects might see Depp rejoin the cast if he can mend his professional ties with Disney.
