Awesome Games Done Quick 2025 rocks out to the tune of $2.5+ million for charity

For the second consecutive year, Games Done Quick convened in Pittsburgh, PA. The event was a thrilling seven-day spectacle of speedruns, and it introduced fresh concepts to add some variety to the traditional setup. After an action-packed week, AGDQ 2025 concluded with a grand total of $2,556,500 raised for the Prevent Cancer Foundation.

2025’s AGDQ finale notched a slight edge over the combined $2.5 million from last January’s and July’s Awesome Games Done Quick and Summer Games Done Quick events, respectively. This pushes the grand total raised by all Games Done Quick marathons to an impressive $50 million! The final figure takes into account direct donations, as well as contributions made through partners such as Fangamer, The Yetee, and Humble Bundle. As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to be part of this incredible gaming community that consistently comes together for a great cause!

Just like last year’s GDQ events, this year’s AGDQ experimented with some fresh concepts to keep the over-15-year-old marathon event engaging. Alongside traditional gameplay sessions, various types of performances were showcased. The underlying theme for this year seemed to be the power of music. Some standout moments included a Crazy Taxi run accompanied by a live band playing the game’s soundtrack, an Elden Ring boss rush where everything was played using a saxophone, and a Super Mario Bros. Wii run that combined Wii Remote controls with live piano performance.

During the week, various runs were held such as:

1. A temple tour for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
2. Elden Ring’s DLC restriction bingo game.
3. The classic showcase for Tetris: The Grand Master.
4. The fan-favorite Awful Games Done Quick segment.
5. Several first appearances for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Silent Hill 2, Shadow Generations, and more at GDQ.

The event concluded with a nail-biting four-player Super Metroid race. However, the twist was that the game was running on a map randomizer. In the end, Eddie edged out Andy by a mere 0.7 seconds to secure the victory.

2025’s Summer Games Done Quick will take place in Minneapolis, MN from July 6 to July 13. In the interim, the ladies of Games Done Quick will present Frost Fatales remotely from March 9-16. Prior to these events, Back to Black (previously Unapologetically Black and Fast) will return for Black History Month, streaming from February 6-9. If you missed any AGDQ runs, you can catch up on them by visiting the Games Done Quick YouTube channel or their website.
