When gamers venture into the Shatterscarp region within the game Avowed, they’ll encounter the Thirdborn settlement and engage with numerous NPCs residing there. Captain Ngunu will task them with a mission aimed at reassembling his separated crew members, culminating in a farewell drink at the local bar.
Your journey takes you to various parts of Shatterscarp, where your task is to win over Ngunu’s former teammates and share a beverage with them. But there seems to be a dark secret at work here, and the choices you make will significantly impact the outcome.
How to Start One Last Drink Quest in Avowed
In the Dead Swordfish tavern, which is located in the southwest corner of Thirdborn, players will find Captain Ngunu. This captain, who is longing for his old crew that were scattered after a series of unfortunate events, hopes to gather everyone together for a drink. Despite not explicitly stating the cause of their separation, it’s clear that Captain Ngunu yearns for the camaraderie they once shared in Avowed.
After granting Captain Ngunu’s petition, you embark on the “One Last Drink” mission within the game “Avowed.” To achieve the optimal result and uncover the hidden objective, follow this guide:
1. Speak with Captain Ngunu in the tavern to initiate the quest.
2. Accompany him to his cabin and listen to his story.
3. Help Captain Ngunu gather supplies for his journey by searching the ship, town, and nearby areas.
4. Assist him in brewing the potion at the alchemy station in the tavern.
5. Follow Captain Ngunu to the specified location and help defend against any threats along the way.
6. Upon reaching the destination, speak with the spirit of Captain Ngunu’s old friend and listen carefully to the conversation.
7. Help Captain Ngunu complete the ritual, ensuring that all required elements are present.
8. Defeat the spectral pirate captain and rescue the trapped sailors.
9. Return to the tavern with Captain Ngunu and report your success.
10. Speak privately with Captain Ngunu and offer him a choice: he can either continue his life as before or choose redemption by turning himself in for his past crimes.
11. If you wish to help Captain Ngunu find redemption, encourage him to surrender and accept the consequences of his actions.
12. Escort Captain Ngunu to the authorities and watch as he faces justice for his past deeds.
13. Return to the tavern to complete the quest and receive your reward.
By completing this secret objective, you will have not only helped Captain Ngunu find redemption but also earned the respect of the townspeople and potentially unlocked additional quests or rewards within “Avowed.”
To avoid any issues with the “One Last Drink” mission, it’s advisable to stick to the listed objectives in the correct order to successfully finish the quest. This is because there have been reports of the mission getting bugged when talking to Captain Ngunu’s crew.
Find Captain Ngunu’s Secret Stash (Optional)
Before embarking on the mission to rally the Captain’s former crew, it would be wise to initially investigate the Watchtower in Thirdborn to unearth a hidden mystery. Keep your eyes peeled for a towering red structure on your right. Make your way towards it and ascend some rungs to reach its summit.
Inside the Watchtower, there’s a secure chest waiting for you. You can unlock it with three keys. Upon opening it, you’ll discover a quest item. This artifact hints at Captain Ngunu’s plan: he wants to gather his crew one last time, with the ultimate intention of eliminating them forever.
Once you have this item, now you can go fetch the crew.
Recruiting Captain Ngunu’s Crew for One Last Drink Quest
In the Avowed game, the “One Last Drink” mission requires players to gather three former crew members of Captain Ngunu: Kowha, Ruanga, and Tauwe. These individuals can be met in any sequence, but it’s suggested that Ruanga is the last one you talk to. Here’s a breakdown of how to recruit each character:
1. Kowha: Locate this crew member first if you wish, as their conversation begins the chain of events for recruiting the others.
2. Tauwe: This character can be approached second or third, depending on your preferred sequence.
3. Ruanga: It is advised to meet Ruanga last due to certain plot reasons; however, they can also be spoken to first or second if you prefer a different order.
Prior to meeting Ruanga, ensure that you’ve properly organized your arguments and elevate your Resolve stat to level 9. This will grant you a unique dialogue choice with Ruanga, which could lead to a favorable conclusion in the quest “One Last Drink”.
- Tauwe: Easiest to recruit. You’ll simply need to approach him and tell him about Captain Ngunu’s invitation, and he’ll jump at the opportunity to meet him again.
- Kowha: You’ll need to first eliminate his soldiers who’ve gotten sick with the Dreamthrall plague. Once you take down the soldiers, talk to Kowha, and he’ll hesitantly accept the Captain’s invite.
- Ruanga: Convincing Ruanga to join Captain Ngunu’s invitation is a bit challenging.
- First, you’ll need to tell her the truth that the Captain meant to poison her and other crewmates with the Vial you discovered in the optional objective.
- Next, you’ll need to assure her that you’ll switch the cups.
- Lastly, choose the “You didn’t tell me to investigate the Lighthouse…” dialog option, which requires Resolve lv. 9 stat.
- Once you’ve done everything right, Ruanga will be finally convinced to accept the Captain’s invitation and put an end to him.
Should You Give Kowha and Ruanga Poison Rum or Switch Cups?

At Captain Ngunu’s assembly, there comes a moment where you can decide to offer the poisoned rum to either Kowha and Ruanga or reverse the cups and instead give it to Captain Ngunu and Tauwe. However, this choice will only become available if you have already accomplished the additional objective within the game Avowed.
Regardless of the choice you make, Captain Ngunu will reward you for successfully recruiting everyone. But since you’ve put in so much effort and persuaded Ruanga to join, it would be fair to honor your commitment to her and carry out the swap in the cups, thereby concluding Captain Ngunu’s life in the One Last Drink quest of Avowed.
