Avengers: Doomsday’s Anthony Mackie on Evoking the ‘Old Marvel Feeling’ With Sequel

As Anthony Mackie, who’s stepping into the red, white, and blue as the latest Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I’ve been feeling quite a whirlwind of emotions lately regarding our upcoming project, Avengers: Doomsday. The cat’s out of the bag now that my participation in this Marvel Studios masterpiece has been officially announced during their recent livestream, where they revealed many of the film’s talented cast members. Most recently, I graced the big screen as Sam Wilson in “Captain America: Brave New World,” which hit theaters on Valentine’s Day 2025.

Anthony Mackie on when he begins filming Avengers: Doomsday

Recently, Electric State’s star had a chat and discussed Avengers: Doomsday. Despite being busy with the launch of Twisted Metal Season 2, there’s a palpable enthusiasm among all involved for Avengers: Doomsday.

Anthony Mackie, in a conversation with IGN, expressed that the upcoming movie would evoke the feel of classic Marvel productions. His words were, “We’re continuing our journey, so everyone’s eager and we’re gathering the team again.” He confirmed that filming is set to commence this week.

The actor remarked, “Everyone seems thrilled. With the script and the Russo brothers returning, I’m confident it will be fantastic. I can hardly wait to see what this production will bring. It promises to recreate that classic Marvel sensation that fans have always loved.

The upcoming film titled “Avengers: Doomsday” is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, with production kicking off in April 2025. This highly anticipated movie will bring back several familiar faces such as Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd, Chris Hemsworth, Florence Pugh, along with actors from previous X-Men films, including Kelsey Grammer, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Rebecca Romijn, and others.

Additionally, Robert Downey Jr., known for his portrayal of Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will now be seen as the antagonist, Doctor Doom. Interestingly, it was announced by the Russo Brothers, who are rejoining Marvel with the film “Doomsday” in 2025, that they initially declined involvement in this project.

Joe Russo explained to Omelete that Robert suggested they work on projects like ‘Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’, but we declined because we didn’t have a suitable plotline or an effective approach to enter those stories. For a while, we were hesitant.
