Actor Anthony Mackie from Avengers: Endgame has shared his desired collaboration with the X-Men team and explained why the upcoming Marvel movie seems like a revisit to its roots. During recent interviews, Mackie disclosed that he starts filming this week, expressing his enthusiasm about reuniting with directors the Russo brothers. Among the X-Men characters he’s eager for Captain America to work alongside, Mackie mentioned Nightcrawler and Cyclops.

During a chat with ScreenRant as he promoted his animated movie Sneaks, Anthony Mackie shared his enthusiasm about the inclusion of classic X-Men figures in the forthcoming Avengers sequel.
When queried about his preferred X-Men teammate, Mackie expressed, “My top pick is Nightcrawler. If given the chance to spend time with one character, I’d choose Nightcrawler and I for a two-week stint in New Orleans during Mardi Gras.” Additionally, he shared a longstanding affection for Cyclops, mentioning that he carries a Cyclops action figure on his keychain since high school.
In a previous announcement, Marvel Studios revealed that Avengers: Doomsday will showcase several familiar faces from the X-Men movies of the 2000s. The ensemble cast includes Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, and Channing Tatum as Gambit – all characters beloved by fans from the earlier X-Men film series.
During an interview with IGN as he promoted Twisted Metal Season 2, Mackie talked about production schedules and creative control for the upcoming movie. “We’re supposed to start this week, and we’ll be out there shooting it,” he shared. “Everyone is excited about it.” He also expressed confidence in the film, saying, “I think with the script and the Russo brothers returning, it’s going to be fantastic.” Mackie highlighted the movie’s tone by explaining, “It will evoke the classic Marvel feeling that fans have always appreciated.
On May 1, 2026, Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit the big screens, marking the beginning of Phase 6 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This movie will bring together heroes and characters from the Marvel universe as well as those hailing from an alternate timeline similar to Earth-10005’s X-Men series.
