Renowned director James Cameron has unveiled the running time for “Avatar 3,” the highly anticipated sequel to 2022’s “Avatar: The Way of Water” from 20th Century Studios. This announcement precedes the big-screen debut of this epic sci-fi film, set for December 19 this year.
How long is the Avatar 3 runtime?
During a recent chat, Cameron revealed that the run time for Avatar: Fire and Ash will match that of the 2022 sequel, which was approximately 3 hours and 12 minutes long. Moreover, the esteemed director also offered an encouraging update on the production status of the third film, stating that the production of the third installment has been running more smoothly than the filming of The Way of Water.
He believes it’s doing exceptionally well. Compared to the previous film, we’ve doubled the number of completed shots for this stage of play and the films are roughly equal in length. This means we’re significantly ahead, a situation he admits he’s never encountered before. He jokes that the process is becoming less daunting; we seem to be improving at it.”
“In other words, he thinks things are going great, but now it’s not as challenging as before because we’re getting better at it, and he was pretty good to begin with.
In this iteration, Avatar: Fire and Ash is once again helmed by director James Cameron, with co-writing credits from Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver on the script. The stellar cast features familiar faces such as Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Jack Champion, Bailey Bass, Edie Falco, and others.
Earlier, Cameron mentioned that the new installment will delve into cultures distinct from those previously portrayed. He refers to these individuals as the ‘Ash People.’ To offer a fresh perspective on the Na’vi, he plans to present them in a different light, revealing aspects beyond their benevolent nature so far depicted.
In the initial movies, you’ll find extremely negative depictions of humans contrasted with very favorable portrayals of the Na’vi. For Avatar 3, we’re planning to flip that around and present both negative and positive human examples. Additionally, we’ll delve into new worlds and carry on with the tales of our main characters. I can assure you that the later instalments will be the most captivating. The earlier ones served as a setup, a way to prepare the audience before the main event.
