Austin Butler Is the New American Psycho

As a seasoned gamer and film enthusiast with a knack for spotting promising talent, I must say that the casting of Austin Butler as Patrick Bateman in the new American Psycho adaptation is an intriguing choice. His diverse portfolio, from Disney Channel to critically acclaimed films like Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood and Elvis, speaks volumes about his versatility as an actor.

Austin Butler will step into the shoes previously filled by Christian Bale in “American Psycho.” The actor from Dune: Part Two is preparing to embody Patrick Bateman in the forthcoming film, which is touted as a fresh take on Bret Easton Ellis’ novel, upon which the 2000 movie was based.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Lionsgate, the company holding the film rights, intends to present a contemporary adaptation of American Psycho. This new version seeks to portray Patrick Bateman in today’s swift and bustling world.

The storyline of American Psycho revolves around a good-looking and successful professional, who secretly murders people in a ruthless manner. Recently, there have been whispers about who might be stepping into the shoes of the original Patrick Bateman, with Jacob Elordi being mentioned among the possible contenders for the role of the wealthy serial killer. However, it has only just been confirmed today by Variety that Butler will be taking on this iconic part.

Who’s directing the new American Psycho?

In this updated version of Ellis’ 1991 novel, Luca Guadagnino will take on the directorial role, with Scott Z. Burns (The Laundromat) writing the script. Renowned for his work in films like The Protagonists, Melissa P., I Am Love, A Bigger Splash, Call Me By Your Name, Suspiria, Bones and All, and Challengers, Guadagnino’s latest project is a romantic drama titled Queer, featuring Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey.

During the year 2022, Butler gained global recognition for his portrayal of Elvis Presley in the biopic titled Elvis. This actor, who began his career in Disney Channel and Nickelodeon productions, has also appeared in films and TV shows such as Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, The Intruders, The Bikeriders, The Dead Don’t Die, The Carrie Diaries, Yoga Hosers, The Shannara Chronicles, Dude, and Masters of the Air, to name a few.

Other details about Guadagnino’s version of American Psycho remain under wraps.
