As a passionate gamer and environmentalist, I’m thrilled to see Auli’i Cravalho using her platform to raise awareness about coral reef conservation through her collaboration with SHEBA premium cat food during Coral Reef Awareness Week 2024. Growing up in Hawai’i, I’ve always held a deep connection to the ocean and the natural world. The beauty of coral reefs has been a source of inspiration for me, both as a gamer who enjoys virtual underwater adventures, and as someone who recognizes their importance for marine life and our planet.
I’ve been thrilled to witness Auli’i Cravalho’s rise to fame after starring in Disney’s Moana. Yet, Moana 2 isn’t the only captivating endeavor she has lined up for 2024. Alongside her blossoming career, Auli’i is proud of her commitment to marine environmentalism and her beloved companion, Rocco – my cat adds joy and meaning to my life beyond the spotlight.
During Coral Reef Awareness Week in July 2024 (15th-21st), Auli’i Cravalho joined forces with SHEBA premium cat food. Together, they produced a series of online videos called “Growing Hope in Hawai’i.” These videos can be watched on SHEBA.com/Sustainability, Auli’i Cravalho’s Instagram channel, and the SHEBA brand’s social media platforms. The initial episode is already live for viewing.
According to the official press release Auli’i Cravalho stated,
“I’ve always had a strong love and respect for the ocean, growing up in Hawai’i. It’s what truly connects us across the world, and I was raised to understand that we are the stewards of our natural world and need to protect it. After working with the SHEBA brand and Kuleana Coral Reefs last year, I was moved to pursue getting my scuba certification, so that I can spend more time enjoying the beauty of the ocean and continue to learn more about how we can help preserve our reefs. I am certain that this second year of our partnership will continue to inspire people that there is hope. The SHEBA brand has implemented scalable solutions for coral reef restoration and is driving momentum toward a plentiful, sustainable fish population for years to come, especially in my Hawaiiain home.”
I’ve had the privilege of living in Hawaii for most of my life, and I can’t help but feel deeply connected to its breathtaking natural beauty. One organization that holds a special place in my heart is Kuleana Coral Reefs. Established just two years ago, this nonprofit was founded with the mission to protect and preserve the precious coral reefs surrounding Oahu.
SHEBA’s commitment to preserving coral reefs is evident through its premium cat food line and the SHEBA Hope Grows initiative. Launched in 2021, this program represents SHEBA’s efforts to bring restoration to coral reefs worldwide.
The Sheba Hope Grows initiative includes 63 restoration sites spanning 11 different countries, with Hawaii being one of the included locations. Sheba contributed generously by donating $1 million to Kuleana for the purpose of revitalizing the injured coral reefs in Hawaiian waters.
Coral reefs play a crucial role in Earth’s ecosystems and provide top-notch nutrition for cats. Preserving coral reefs is essential for the betterment of our planet and our feline companions. The initiatives led by Auli’i Cravalho and SHEBA aim to spread awareness about the plight of these reefs, which have been deteriorating due to climate change for many years.
The effects of climate change have been felt globally, ranging from jeopardized animal populations to altered weather patterns and escalating health concerns. Climate change is a tangible reality, and as it shapes the world further, people have the power to respond.
As someone who has had the privilege of snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters over beautiful coral reefs, I can’t help but feel deeply concerned about their current state. With each dive, I’ve witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of human activities and climate change on these vital ecosystems. That’s why I strongly believe we all have a role to play in their preservation.
I’m excited to team up with Auli’i Cravalho, SHEBA, and Kuleana Coral Reefs in their mission to spread awareness about the troubling condition of coral reefs around the world. Together, we’re committed to sharing the vital role these precious ecosystems play in our planet and the efforts being made to restore them. Let’s make a difference!
