ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X announced to combine Xbox with the “power of Windows”

After the popularity of Valve’s Steam Deck in portable PC gaming, ASUS and Xbox have announced a formidable new competitor. Known as the Asus ROG Xbox Allied X, this Windows-driven portable device is set to hit the market later this year.

The model Ally X comes equipped with an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme motherboard, 24GB of swift memory, compared to its non-X variant that sports a Ryzen Z2 A SoC and 16GB of RAM. According to reports, both systems are capable of running all Xbox PC games using Windows 11.

ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X announced

In a recent announcement, we’ve collaboratively developed two innovative devices: the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X. According to their press release, these handhelds are designed with ease of access in mind. Now you can enjoy your favorite games across platforms like Xbox, Battle.net, and other major PC marketplaces, all on a single device.

In addition to its fresh XBOX UI, the latest ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X comes equipped with the Armory Crate app, a feature that has been present in previous ROG Ally handhelds. This software enables players to effortlessly move between different apps and modify key settings like screen refresh rate, TDP, and many others at their convenience.

On a Windows 11 device, the upcoming handheld should have the capability to run any game title, including those that can’t be played on Steam Deck due to anti-cheat complications. Furthermore, this new handheld device leverages Xbox-developed controls and tactile triggers for an even more enjoyable gaming experience.

In addition, Xbox is collaborating with developers on a novel initiative aimed at making it simpler for players to recognize games that have been optimized for handheld devices like the Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X. This method mirrors Valve’s Steam Deck verified solution, providing players with information about which titles perform well on the new device.

It hasn’t been revealed by Xbox and ASUS what the cost will be for their upcoming handheld device. Nevertheless, it’s expected that they will launch it later in the year, specifically within the Winter season.
