Assassin’s Creed Shadows officially supports Steam Deck despite high PC requirements

The forthcoming open-world title from Ubisoft, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, is exclusively designed for next-generation consoles. You can find it on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, MacOS, and PC. Despite the game’s substantial PC specifications, there was speculation that it might be another game too large for the Steam Deck. However, Ubisoft has stated that this assumption is not accurate.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows on Steam Deck

According to a post on Ubisoft’s social media platforms, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been formally endorsed by its developers. Currently, Valve has not yet confirmed the new handheld open-world game, but Ubisoft is eagerly waiting for approval from them.

In response to several inquiries, Ubisoft announced that they will indeed be supporting the Steam Deck upon its release. At the moment, they’re waiting for Valve to provide a rating or classification. Further details will be shared shortly.

In simple terms, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the most recent game in the series, is playable on Steam Deck with a performance similar to that of the last open-world game in the series, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Although Assassin’s Creed Shadows requires more system resources, it appears that players might achieve a steady 30 frames per second (fps) on Valve’s handheld device.

Since Ubisoft has confirmed their support for Steam Deck at launch, there’s optimism that adjustments specific to the device might be made for games like Assassin’s Creed: Shadow. Given that titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 offer in-game graphics settings tailored for handheld play, it would be wonderful if Assassin’s Creed: Shadow followed suit.

The newest installment of Assassin’s Creed from Ubisoft is planned for launch on March 20, 2025, following a number of extended postponements. Initially slated for a November release, Ubisoft pushed back the game to February, which was subsequently delayed again until its current scheduled date.
