As Stellar Blade PC gets booted off the Steam Next Fest charts, a sci-fi FPS that’s everything I actually wanted from Starfield is rising up to take its place

This week, Shift Up’s action RPG climbed to the summit of the Steam Next Fest rankings, thanks to the upcoming Stellar Blade PC launch. However, as Stellar Blade is no longer eligible, another game has begun to climb in popularity and challenge for the top spot.

Well, this week, I was sitting pretty at the summit of gaming charts, going toe-to-toe with a resurgent soulslike MMORPG for the throne. But if you take a peek at those same leaderboards today, I’m nowhere to be found. The reason? My official launch happened yesterday, and apparently, Steam Next Fest’s big three charts only highlight games that haven’t yet been released on Steam. Since I’m now officially out of the pre-release category, I’ve bid adieu to those lofty rankings.

Despite the significant change in one of the main games, you’re free to try out the demo. However, this shift has caused quite a turbulence in the organization of Steam Next Fest at the moment. Meanwhile, that MMO remains popular, but a specific game is capitalizing on the gap left by Stellar Blade.

In essence, the game you’re referring to is called “Jump Ship”. It’s a cooperative First-Person Shooter where you and up to three companions assume roles as the spacecraft crew. This game offers a unique blend of space combat and ground battles. The standout feature of Jump Ship is its smooth transitions from space, to ship, to planet, something I wished Starfield could have provided instead of its frequent loading screens and limited landing areas. Although Jump Ship isn’t an RPG, a cooperative reinterpretation of the game I envisioned for Starfield is undeniably enticing.

It appears I’m not the only one with this thought, as Jump Ship is currently ranking high on all three major charts at Next Fest, and it’s even leading the wishlist charts. What’s intriguing is that in the player-based ‘top demos’ chart, it’s placed third, just behind a game that shares some similarities – Wildgate, a ship-to-ship combat game with a hint of REPO’s essence. This, along with Stellar Blade, seems to suggest that Steam Next Fest players are craving space exploration.
