Armie Hammer’s The Dark Knight Gets New Title After ‘Friendly’ Talk With Warner Bros.

Armie Hammer and Uwe Boll’s The Dark Knight movie has been given a new title.

In January 2025, it was revealed that Armie Hammer, who faced numerous allegations of sexual misconduct on social media and hasn’t appeared in a film since Death on the Nile (2022), is set to return to acting with The Dark Knight. Additionally, he’s involved in another project, Frontier Crucible, which is being helmed by director Travis Mills.

Under Uwe Boll’s direction, this film bears no resemblance to the 2008 Batman movie, The Dark Knight, directed by Christopher Nolan and featuring Christian Bale and Heath Ledger in its cast.

What is the new title of Armie Hammer’s The Dark Knight?

Per Variety, Boll and Hammer’s The Dark Knight movie has now been renamed to Citizen Vigilante.

Boll explained that they held a cordial discussion with Warner Bros. and opted to rename their project as “Citizen Vigilante” to prevent any potential misunderstandings regarding their well-known character.

Michael Roesch, the executive producer, mentioned that we took into account a significant amount of fan feedback, as they requested a title change due to its resemblance to Chris Nolan’s film. This was yet another reason for modifying the title.

Roesch also said the discussion with Warner Bros. was “very amicable.”

In the movie “Citizen Vigilante,” Hammer assumes the role of Sanders, a character who decides to pursue justice independently by tracking down lawbreakers. His vigilante mission earns him popularity on social media and wins him admiration from the public. Alongside him, Costas Mandylor appears as Henry in the film.

The film takes place in an unnamed Eastern European city, but astute viewers may identify it as Zagreb, making it a Croatian setting, according to Roesch. However, the narrative is broadly applicable and could be adapted to any larger city across Europe.

The official launch date for Citizen Vigilante is still undisclosed, but Roesch anticipates that it will be finalized within a couple of weeks.
