Who is in the Topakk trailer?
The video showcases renowned Filipino actors Arjo Atayde and Julia Montes in their roles as Miguel Vergara and Weng Diwata, who confront a ruthless vigilante group spearheaded by Sid Lucero’s character, Romero. Additionally, Kokoy De Santos portrays Bogs Diwata. Before its digital debut, this movie had its theatrical premiere at the 78th Cannes Film Festival and later screened at Switzerland’s 76th annual Locarno Film Festival.
Topakk is directed and produced by Richard Somes, filmmaker of Ang Unang Aswang, in collaboration with co-writers Will Fredo and Jimmy Francisco Flores. This production is spearheaded by Sylvia Sanchez, veteran Filipino actress and mother of actor Arjo Atayde, along with his sister Ria Atayde, also a well-known actress in the Philippines.
According to Somes, “Topakk” is a deeply personal exploration – a struggle with violence in its rawest forms. In essence, it’s about the meaningless loss of life, the brutality that arises from conflict and power struggles. This piece invites us to confront the fear, barbarity, and oppression perpetrated by those who wield power.
Sanchez stated, “I’m incredibly proud of the collaboration we had with Topakk. Our exceptional cast and visionary director allowed us to exhibit Filipino artistry at festivals like Cannes, Locarno, and Fantastic Fest. This journey, from pre-production to post, has been truly remarkable, and we can’t wait to share it with everyone.
