Ariana Grande Addresses 9 to 5 Remake Rumor With Zendaya & Sydney Sweeney

Ariana Grande has shared insights about potentially appearing in a new adaptation of the classic film “9 to 5” along with Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney.

In a recent chat with Speaking to Screen International, the BAFTA and Oscar-nominated newcomer, Zendaya, was queried about whispers that she, along with Sweeney, would feature in an upcoming production. Reportedly, this project is slated for production by Jennifer Aniston.

Grandes evaded specifics, but expressed affection towards all the women named, mentioning a desire to collaborate with them. However, she seemed more inclined towards creating something unique and fresh, rather than relying on existing projects.

Wow, I adore each one of these ladies,” stated Grande. “It’s a dream of mine to collaborate with all of them, and I believe it would be exceptionally exciting if we could create something unique together.

The 1980 film “9 to 5,” which starred Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dolly Parton, portrayed these actresses as three working women who dreamed up ways to outsmart a sexist vice president at their workplace and turn the tables on him. This movie grossed over $100 million globally and significantly boosted Dolly Parton’s fame beyond her music career, propelling her into popular culture at large.

A TV show adapted from the movie was broadcast too, airing across five seasons during the 1980s, and a stage musical version was debuted as well in 2009.

Who’s involved in the 9 to 5 remake?

The upcoming remake of “9 to 5” is said to be penned by Academy Award winner Diablo Cody, known for her work on “Juno” and “Lisa Frankenstein”. Earlier, Rashida Jones was linked to write the script, based on the original characters created by Patricia Resnick. Alongside Aniston, Kristin Hahn at Echo Films is also involved in producing this project.

It’s uncertain at this point whether the original actors like Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, and Lily Tomlin will participate in any capacity for the upcoming remake.

Under the direction of Colin Higgins, the initial film centered around three female office workers who chose to retaliate against their boorish and chauvinistic supervisor. Notable actors in this production included Dabney Coleman, Sterling Hayden, Elizabeth Wilson, Henry Jones, Lawrence Pressman, Marian Mercer, among others. Additionally, the movie showcased an original composition penned and sung by Parton.
