As a lifelong admirer of AR Rahman‘s enchanting symphony and profound wisdom, I wholeheartedly resonate with his sentiments about the ethical dilemmas plaguing modern filmmaking. With decades of experience under my belt, I’ve witnessed firsthand the transformative power of music and the sanctity of artistic integrity.
AR Rahman recently had an interview with The Week, during which he expressed his dissatisfaction towards contemporary filmmakers taking old songs and labeling them as reinterpretations.
During the interview, AR Rahman expressed his viewpoint that one should always adhere to certain moral principles. He stated that it’s not appropriate to use a song from one film and then employ it in another film after six years, under the pretext of reimagining it. Without obtaining prior consent, it is inappropriate to reinterpret someone else’s work.
Moving forward, the skilled musician likewise pointed out that these reworked tunes can be shared on social platforms, yet they shouldn’t become popular hits. Furthermore, he expressed concerns about the misuse of AI by creators, warning that such practices could potentially cause larger issues down the line.
According to the music composer ARR, when creators utilize AI to mimic the unique styles of original composers, it leads to ethical dilemmas since these creators may not be providing appropriate compensation to the original artists. He further warns that such practices could potentially lead to job losses in the industry.
AR Rahman stated that although AI can aid in song mastering, it’s essential for creating music to have a human touch and a thoughtful approach. He also suggested that people may prefer genuine musicians who play live with only a guitar and their music, as opposed to relying solely on digital production. In the future, he believes we will value the flaws even more when experiencing such performances.
In the course of the discussion, AR Rahman explained that he employed AI to mimic the voices of deceased singers Bamba Bakya and Shahul Hameed during the same conversation. The composer stated that Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth desired a folk-like voice for a song in Lal Salaam, which reminded him of Shahul’s voice. After considering this, they reached out to the families of the late singers and agreed on fair compensation to use their voices in the project.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m thrilled to share that I recently found myself immersed in the captivating world of music, composing tracks and scores for the highly anticipated film Raayan featuring Dhanush. Moving forward, you can expect me to lend my musical talents to several exciting projects such as Genie, Thug Life, Kadhalikka Neramillai, and Suriya 45 in Tamil cinema. Stay tuned for more!
Additionally, the musician is expected to feature in forthcoming films such as Chhaava, Tere Ishk Mein, RC16 starring Ram Charan, and the Ranbir Kapoor-led Ramayana.
