Now, this talented actor has revealed an incredible act of kindness – when Anurag was facing financial troubles, Vijay stepped up to help him arrange Aaliyah’s marriage! During an interview with The Hindu, Anurag shared that he had turned down numerous film opportunities from the South before finding a truly exceptional screenplay.
It was during a visit to a neighbor’s house where he met Vijay Sethupathi, and it was then that the actor shared the storyline of Maharaja with him.
Reflecting on our chat earlier, Anurag mentioned that he often ran into Vijay Sethupathi at his neighbor’s house. Vijay shared with him an extraordinary script they’d been trying to get to him. At first, Anurag declined. However, since Vijay had assisted him in finding something in Kennedy, Anurag expressed gratitude by giving him a ‘Thank You’ card in the movie.
Initially, Anurag Kashyap didn’t have a role in the film until he discussed with Vijay the importance of financial support for his daughter’s upcoming marriage. Once Vijay understood, he decided to assist. And that’s how things unfolded.
According to his account: “Last year, I mentioned to him that I planned to marry off my daughter within the coming year but was uncertain if I could cover the expenses. To my relief, Vijay offered assistance, which is how we came to know him as ‘Maharaja’.
To be honest, I found myself pleasantly surprised by Maharaja’s impact in Tamil films. His performance garnered widespread acclaim and success. The action-thriller we worked on together ended up grossing an impressive Rs. 200 crores and more globally during its theatrical release, proving to be a resounding box office hit.
Indeed, the movie featuring Vijay Sethupathi and Anurag Kashyap garnered considerable attention at the Chinese box office, outperforming expectations. Cinemas were packed to capacity, and audiences eagerly waited in long lines for a chance to watch this film.
On December 11, 2024, Anurag Kashyap’s daughter Aaliyah Kashyap got married to her long-term partner Shane Gregoire in a private event attended by friends and family.
The filmmaker actively and joyfully took part in his daughter’s significant event, participating fully in every tradition with genuine delight.
