Ant-Man Star Doubts He’ll Return to MCU

Ant-Man star Michael Douglas doesn’t think he’ll be returning to the MCU.

In 2015, Douglas first appeared as Hank Pym in the movie Ant-Man, then he played the role again in Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). His character was last seen in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania which came out in 2023. This is the last time MCU fans have witnessed him on screen so far.

What did Ant-Man’s Michael Douglas say about returning to the MCU?

In conversation about possible future projects, Douglas was questioned if he’d be keen on playing Hank again for an upcoming Marvel film.

He replied, “I’m not convinced otherwise, as I’ve had that experience myself and was thrilled about it. That was my first time doing a green screen shot, though.” He added, “I took on ‘The Kominsky Method’ to collaborate with Chuck Lorre and dabble in comedy. But I’m cherishing this break and savoring my life. It was quite demanding juggling the production company and acting duties simultaneously.

It’s unlikely that Hank will appear in “Avengers: Doomsday,” a film by Marvel Studios set to hit theaters in 2026 and now being produced. On the other hand, it is confirmed that Ant-Man, played by Paul Rudd, will feature in this movie.

It’s uncertain whether Ant-Man (Rudd) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will conclude his storyline with Avengers: Doomsday, or if he’ll reappear in the 2027 sequel, titled Avengers: Secret Wars. The future is yet to be revealed.

Simultaneously, Douglas took on the role of Benjamin Franklin in a miniseries titled “Franklin” on Apple TV+, debuting in April 2024. Alongside his son, Cameron Douglas, he has also completed filming for a drama movie called “Blood Knot,” directed by Roberto Sneider. The release date for this production remains undetermined as per Douglas’ statement to Deadline, since they are still searching for distribution.

All three Ant-Man movies are currently available to stream on Disney+.
