As a long-time gamer and film enthusiast, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of Sean Baker’s latest project, Anora. Having been captivated by his previous works like Tangerine, The Florida Project, and Red Rocket, I can’t help but feel excited about this new venture.
The first trailer for Sean Baker’s Anora has been released.
At the 77th Cannes Film Festival in May 2024, the coveted Palm d’Or was bestowed upon Anora, a new film by Baker. Known for his works like Tangerine (2015), The Florida Project (2017), and Red Rocket (2021), Baker is the talented mind behind this latest production.

What is Sean Baker’s Anora about?
In the movie’s description, Anora, a sex worker residing in Brooklyn, experiences a Cinderella-like transformation when she encounters and weds the offspring of a Russian oligarch. However, their storybook union is endangered once word reaches Russia, prompting the disapproving parents to travel to New York with the intention of annulling the marriage.
Anora features Mikey Madison (known for her roles in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Scream) as the main character. Additionally, the film boasts the talents of Mark Eidelstein, Yuri Borisov, Karren Karagulian, Vache Tovmasyan, Lindsey Normington, Ivy Wolk, and Luna Sofía Miranda in its distinguished cast.
At a Cannes press conference in May 2024, Baker shared with Variety how he befriended people in the sex work industry and discovered countless untold stories. His goal with all of his films is to humanize and universalize these experiences, aiming to eradicate the stigma long attached to this line of work.
I must admit, filming the lap dance scenes was an enjoyable experience for me. The set had a welcoming atmosphere that put me at ease. After a while, I became so comfortable in those situations that even walking around the club, surrounded by naked women, including myself, felt completely normal.
Anora releases in United States theaters on October 18, 2024, from Neon.
