For your convenience,
The Criterion Collection has revealed its April 2025 lineup, and among them is Sean Baker’s film Anora. This comedy-drama, featuring Mikey Madison as the main character, a sex worker, garnered positive box office returns even with a restricted theater release in the previous year.
On April 29, 2025, I’ll be thrilled to find Anora 4K UHD + Blu-ray Special Edition gracing the hallowed shelves of the Criterion collection. This premium package is brimming with enticing extras! Expect insightful audio commentaries from both cast and crew members, a freshly minted documentary chronicling its creation process, in-depth interviews with the director and the talented Madison herself, a few discarded scenes that didn’t make the final cut, and so much more to savor.
The movie centers on Anora, a dancer and sex worker from Brooklyn with an erotic background, who unexpectedly encounters a life-changing opportunity when she meets and later marries a young Russian client named Ivan (Mark Eydelshteyn). However, trouble arises when Ivan’s powerful Russian family learns about their marriage, going to great lengths to annul it, potentially ruining Anora’s fairy tale ending.
Anora is characterized as a “spinning, modern, humorous comedy with a tender core,” a description that has earned it numerous nominations from prestigious awards such as the Gotham Awards, Film Independent Spirit Awards, Critics Choice Awards, and Golden Globe. Remarkably, its director even won the Palme d’Or award at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
Besides Anora, the cast includes Yura Borisov, Karren Karagulian, Vache Tovmasyan, Aleksei Serebryakov, Darya Ekamasova, Lindsey Normington, and others.
What are the movies included in the Criterion April 2025 lineup?
