Anna Kendrick Donated All of Her Woman of the Hour Pay to Charity

As a seasoned gamer who’s spent countless hours navigating through the virtual world, I must say, Anna Kendrick’s actions are truly commendable. In our gaming lives, we often play roles that earn us digital currency or points, but rarely do they translate into real-world impact like this. It’s refreshing to see a celebrity using their platform for good, especially when it comes to supporting organizations like RAINN and the National Center for Victims of Crimes.

Anna Kendrick has disclosed that she didn’t earn a penny from her role in Woman of the Hour, choosing instead to give away the film’s earnings to numerous charitable organizations.

During an interview with Crime Junkie AF podcast, Kendrick shared that she discovered, following Netflix’s purchase of the film before its Toronto International Film Festival debut, that the movie was set to generate profits. She admitted to feeling somewhat uncomfortable about this financial aspect of the project.

In due time, Netflix purchased the film. However, it wasn’t until a week before the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) that Kendrick realized, “Ah, this movie is going to earn money.” They managed to submit their work just in time for TIFF consideration, and then it seemed like there would be financial transactions. The question of whether he felt uncomfortable about this situation crossed his mind, and indeed, he did.

Kendrick clarified that she’s not personally profiting from the movie, as it’s a portrayal of the real-life serial killer Rodney Alcala who once appeared on The Dating Game in 1978. Instead, she mentioned that the earnings are being given to RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) and the National Center for Victims of Crimes.

What is Woman of the Hour about?

This film titled “Woman of the Hour” is helmed by Kendrick from a script penned by Ian MacAllister McDonald. The executive producers for this project are Kendrick, Stuart Ford, Miguel A. Palos Jr., Zach Garrett, Paul Barbeau, Ian MacAllister McDonald, Sean Patrick O’Reilly, Joe Penna, Matthew Helderman, Luke Taylor, Russ Posternak, Andrew Deane, and Stephen Crawford. The producers for this film are Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, J.D. Lifshitz, and Raphael Margules.

In the 1970s, Rodney Alcala embarked on a killing spree, attracting women by pretending to be a photographer seeking models. Despite being a registered sex offender and having just been released from prison, he gained notoriety when he appeared on The Dating Game, a show where three new bachelors were introduced each week, unseen as a woman asked them funny questions before selecting one for an all-inclusive trip together.

Woman of the Hour is available to watch now on Netflix.
