As a seasoned gamer and movie enthusiast with a soft spot for biopics, I must say that the upcoming Netflix release of “Maria” starring Angelina Jolie has me absolutely thrilled! With her exceptional acting prowess and the masterful direction of Pablo Larraín, this film promises to be a riveting exploration into the life of one of the 20th century’s most iconic performers.
In the current winter season, Angelina Jolie – a past Academy Award laureate – is hoping to secure her third nomination. She previously clinched the award for Best Supporting Actress with “Girl, Interrupted” in 2000 and was nominated for Best Actress for “The Changeling” in 2009. Now, she’s aiming for another Best Actress nod due to her anticipated outstanding performance in the upcoming Netflix film titled “Maria“.
The film titled Maria, created by director Pablo Larraín and writer Stephen Knight, first appeared at the Venice International Film Festival in August 2024. Later, Netflix purchased the rights for distribution across the United States. To date, the movie has garnered positive reviews from critics, boasting a 77% rating on Rotten Tomatoes before its streaming debut in December.
As a gamer, I’m super excited to share that I’ll finally get to watch “Maria” on Netflix in the US on Wednesday, December 11! It had a limited theatrical release over Thanksgiving holiday on November 27. More territories will join in 2025 when it hits the big screen in Italy (January 1), the UK and Ireland (January 10 respectively), and Germany (February 6). Can’t wait to experience this movie across the globe!
