As a lifelong opera enthusiast who has been fortunate enough to witness some of the greatest vocalists grace the stage, I must say that I am absolutely thrilled about Netflix’s upcoming biographical drama, “Maria.” From the teaser trailer alone, it appears that we are in for an emotional and introspective journey into the life of one of the most iconic figures in the world of opera, Maria Callas.


Netflix unveiled the initial teaser for a forthcoming drama titled “Maria,” which is directed by Pablo Larraín and offers a glimpse into the life story of renowned opera singer Maria Callas.

What happens in the Maria teaser trailer?

The teaser trailer looks back at the life of Callas, often considered one of the best vocalists of all time, as she looks back on her life. The film will chronicle the later years of Callas’ life as she tries to avoid life in the public eye.

Maria is set to come to certain cinemas on November 27, and then stream on Netflix starting December 11. This movie first premiered globally at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, receiving a long-lasting applause.

The movie chronicles an American-Greek opera singer named Maria, who moves to Paris following a flashy and turbulent career under the spotlight. In her later years, we see Maria reinterpret the iconic soprano character, as she grapples with her self-image and life’s meaning while confronting her past.

This movie is helmed by director Larraín, with a script penned by the mind behind Peaky Blinders, Steven Knight. The ensemble cast features Pierfrancesco Favino (from The Hummingbird), Alba Rohrwacher (known for La Chimera), Haluk Bilginer (recognized in Winter Sleep), Kodi Smit-McPhee (famous for The Power of the Dog), and Valeria Golino (renowned for Portrait of a Lady on Fire). Juan de Dios Larraín, Lorenzo Mieli, and Jonas Dornbach are responsible for its production. The film is a joint effort by The Apartment, Fabula, and Komplizen & Fremantle production houses.
