As a seasoned gamer with a profound appreciation for immersive storytelling and cutting-edge technology, I am thrilled about Andy Serkis‘ latest project involving AI characters. His illustrious career in motion-capture acting has not only revolutionized filmmaking but also paved the way for more engaging and realistic virtual experiences.
Andy Serkis is working on a new project that involves AI characters.
Andy Serkis is renowned for his performance-capture acting and voice work in creating digital characters like Gollum from The Lord of the Rings films, Caesar in the rebooted Planet of the Apes series, among others. Additionally, he has ventured into directing movies, including Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle (2018) and Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021), to name a few.
He’s now working on a new Lord of the Rings project that is tentatively called The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.
By the specified deadline, Serkis revealed at the UK’s Labour Party conference that his Imaginarium production company is developing a “story centered around artificial intelligence” characters.
What do we know about Andy Serkis’ project with AI characters?
According to Serkis, the narrative kicks off with two-dimensional characters who eventually step into a world blended with augmented reality.
He went on to say, “Reaching that stage, these characters are essentially AI creations, brought to life by the hands of artists and filmmakers. They exist within digital realms where intimate interactions with these computer-generated figures become possible.
It’s not yet clear if the project will be a television series or a movie.
As a fervent admirer, I can’t help but echo the sentiments of Serkis regarding this project’s application of AI: “It’s like a new kind of sorcery that’s causing quite a stir. Even the giants of VFX can’t seem to match the wonders being crafted in the humble abodes of individuals. It’s often misjudged, maligned, and compared unfavorably to other innovations, much like how people initially perceived the internet as a harbinger of doom.
…”It’s only recently that actors have grasped the concept of wearing costumes or makeup while standing in a specialized suit and essentially performing as they usually would. However, it’s crucial to secure necessary permissions so that we can profitably monetize their artistic work in an appropriate manner.
