As a dedicated gamer with years of experience under my belt, I can’t help but get excited about the potential casting of Andrew Garfield as Jesus in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming movie. Growing up, I was captivated by Scorsese’s masterpieces like The Last Temptation of Christ and Silence, so the idea of seeing Garfield portray such an iconic figure is truly thrilling.

However, as a realist who has followed the Hollywood rumor mill for quite some time, I remain cautiously optimistic. The casting rumors have been circulating for over a year now, with conflicting reports and denials from Garfield himself. It’s not unusual in Tinseltown for actors to be linked to projects that ultimately don’t pan out.

That being said, if it were to happen, I would eagerly anticipate this collaboration between Scorsese and Garfield. In May 2023, Martin Scorsese, known for his film “The Last Temptation of Christ” from 1988, revealed that he intended to produce another movie centering around Jesus. This announcement followed a private meeting between Scorsese and his wife, Helen Morris, and Pope Francis at the Vatican.

Reports emerged later suggesting that Garfield might have been considered for the role of Jesus in Scorsese’s upcoming movie.

At the time, there were differing accounts about this matter. In April 2024, Variety stated that Martin Scorsese might collaborate with Silence’s Andrew Garfield again, but it wasn’t certain whether he was being considered for the main character or a disciple role in his Jesus project. Scholars estimate that Jesus died between the ages of 33 and 38. Simultaneously, there were also rumors suggesting Miles Teller might be up for a part in the movie as well.

He mentioned that he too enjoys his work, adding, “You can’t simply wait for Scorsese to contact you, as he usually makes a film every three years, and often times Leonardo DiCaprio is featured in them.

A release date for Scorsese’s Jesus movie has not yet been announced.

In the meantime, Garfield has recently shared the screen with Florence Pugh in the 2024 film “We Live in Time,” directed by John Crowley. Coming up next, he’ll portray Henrik Gibson in Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming production titled “After the Hunt.” This movie also features Julia Roberts and Ayo Edebiri.
