André 3000 Carried a Piano on His Back at the Met Gala in the Name of His New EP

Andre 3000 caused quite a stir as he walked the Met Gala red carpet, sporting a piano on his back and carrying a rubbish bag.

Instead of avoiding direct approaches when releasing his albums, last night’s appearance hinted at hidden, promotional intentions. The versatile artist revealed details about an upcoming surprise music project – titled “7 piano sketches” – right before walking the red carpet.

Initially, [the project] was referred to as “[The Best Worst Rap Album In History],” André explained in a statement. The original description humorously described it as the worst rap album ever made due to its lack of lyrics. However, it’s considered the best because it offers an unprecedented emotional freedom for the artist and personally, it’s been his most fulfilling project. It’s also the best because it serves as a refreshing break, acting like a palate cleanser for him.

Like its name suggests, the EP spans seven new songs and clocks in at 16-and-a-half minutes.

1. Playing tricks in the snow

2. And then one day you’ll find…

3. One morning, when you’re an ant and feeling great, ready to drive your child to school, but realize that you forgot to turn off the car lights from last night, draining the battery

5. Pianos in hotel lobbies

6. Mansions filled with blueberries

7. Laughter out of sync (offbeat laughter)

8. I pass the entire day waiting for the evening
