Andor’s Adria Arjona Says Filming Sexual Assault Scene in Season 2 ‘Was Challenging’

As a gamer putting myself into the shoes of Adria Arjona, who breathes life into the character Bix Caleen in the thrilling Star Wars series Andor on Disney+, I can honestly say that filming the intense sexual assault scene in Season 2 Episode 3 was no walk in the park. In this episode, Bix and other refugees from Ferrix are seeking shelter on a distant planet when the Imperial forces show up. During their stay, I cross paths with an Imperial lieutenant named Krole, portrayed by Alex Waldmann. He seems to have come to the planet for an audit, but his true intentions soon become clear when he threatens me, revealing that he’s aware of my status as an “illegal.”

He demands sexual favors in exchange for my freedom, but I firmly refuse. Unfortunately, Krole doesn’t take kindly to my denial and tries to force himself upon me. In self-defense, I put up a fierce fight to protect myself. The scene required a great deal of emotional and physical effort, making it one of the most challenging scenes I’ve encountered during our time on Andor.

Adria Arjona credits Andor Season 2 director for smooth filming of sexual assault scene

Actress Arjona praised Ariel Kleiman, the episode’s director, for cultivating and preserving a safe and comfortable atmosphere on set during the filming of a delicate scene. She expressed that they had an exceptional stunt team and a collaborative director in Ari, who meticulously and scientifically filmed the scene to minimize the need for numerous retakes. (As reported by Entertainment Weekly)

As a devoted Star Wars fan, I must admit that sexual violence has been subtly alluded to within the franchise’s vast expanse. However, it is Andor that marks a significant departure – becoming the first series rooted in the realms of the Jedi and Sith to tackle such explicit themes head-on. Adria Arjona, one of the cast members, mentioned that filming this intense scene was particularly challenging because everyone involved recognized the profound impact it would have, not just for the show, but for Star Wars as a whole.

In the act of performing as Blink Twice, the actress emphasized her sense of profound security and comfort throughout the process. She gratefully acknowledged Tony Gilroy, the series creator and showrunner, for providing this secure environment. She further explained, “Gilroy instills a reflection where events in our universe can have parallels in a distant galaxy.

Three new episodes of Andor Season 2 air weekly on Disney+ on Tuesdays.
