In a recent conversation, actor Benjamin Bratt discussed his role as Bail Organa in Andor Season 2, stepping into the character previously portrayed by Jimmy Smits. Bratt first appeared as Senator Organa in episode 6 of the second season, titled “What a Festive Evening.
In the past, the character was played by Smits in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), the 2022 Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi, and the 2008 video game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

Or simply, Smits has appeared as this character in multiple Star Wars productions, including Attack of the Clones (2002), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022 series on Disney+), and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (2008 video game).
Benjamin Bratt opens up on playing Bail Organa in Andor Season 2
As a gamer, I jumped at the chance to embody Bail Organa because this character is a mastermind tactician. Here’s why – he’s not just smart; he’s got the skills to stir up trouble when necessary. That’s what truly intrigued me and led me to embrace the role.
In “What a Festive Evening,” Bratt’s character bumps into Mon Mothma, played by Genevieve O’Reilly, and her husband Perrin, portrayed by Alastair Mackenzie, as he departs from a party. The actor who played the Mother of the Bride in another production also paid tribute to Smits, stating that he was “extremely skilled.” Bratt further complimented Smits, saying, “He [Smits] embodies elegance, an innate grace, sincerity, and a genuine earnestness that suits this character perfectly.
Previously, it had been disclosed by SuperHeroHype that the reason for Smits’ non-appearance in Andor Season 2, playing Bail Organa, was due to scheduling issues with filming.
Bratt mentioned that Gilroy’s creation, according to him, is both “minimalist” yet “extremely intricate.” The star of Miss Congeniality pointed out that despite a looming tragedy for the protagonists, the show maintains an air of optimism. Moreover, he stated that the narrative serves as a reminder of the indomitable nature of the human spirit – a key element of effective storytelling, according to Bratt.
Other than Bratt, the cast for Andor Season 2 consists of Diego Luna playing Cassian Andor, Kyle Soller as Syril Karn, Adria Arjona as Bix Caleen, and Forest Whitaker in the role of Saw Gerrera. The series streams three new episodes every Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET on Disney+.
