An awesome Metal Gear Solid 2 co-op mod is in the works that lets you sneak through Kojima’s masterpiece with a friend

Originally criticized and considered contentious within the Metal Gear Solid tactical espionage series, Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty has since gained such admiration that a dedicated fan is developing a complete cooperative modification for it.

24 years following its original launch, an ardent Metal Gear Solid enthusiast named SolidSnake11 is tirelessly endeavoring to incorporate complete two-player cooperative gameplay into the visually striking PS2 title. Remarkably, progress on this project appears to be thriving.

In a recently uploaded YouTube video, SolidSnake11’s teamwork modification for Sons of Liberty game is being worked on at the moment. This modification was unveiled to the public for the very first time just last week, and the modder has already made significant strides in its development.

The modder expressed curiosity about how the game would respond to having two players simultaneously on screen. Although he revised certain code to enable interaction between the players and enemies, he admitted that he did not fix many issues, leading to the game’s excessive glitches.

Over the past seven days, there’s been remarkable advancement. Now, a single computer can run the game with two controllers linked up for comfortable cooperative play. Furthermore, both characters in the game are visible on the radar, enabling both participants to locate one another should it be necessary.

In our ongoing efforts to enhance the gameplay experience, we’ve added a unique feature for Player Two – a separate radar dot is now assigned to them! #MGS2Coop

As soon as the mod gets launched, you’ll be able to play it online using tools like Parsec. But this mod has been designed mainly for local multiplayer experience on PC systems, making it a great choice for sharing the fun on your couch. It’s quite an exciting addition!

Ever since I’ve longed for a cooperative mode in the MGS series to amuse my bothersome siblings, this development feels like a dream come true. Regardless of whether or not the co-op mode proves enjoyable during some of the game’s intense moments remains to be determined, but just having it available is wonderful regardless.

Currently, the Metal Gear Solid series is being rejuvenated as Konami gets ready to release a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. This upcoming remake, powered by Unreal Engine 5, is a highly accurate revival of the PS2 original and includes the return of its controversial theater mode.
