Amid Kanguva’s box office debacle, Suriya’s Rs 350 crore film Karna with Janhvi Kapoor has shelved: Reports

As a seasoned observer of the dynamic world of cinema, I must say that Suriya’s journey continues to be intriguing and full of surprises. The news about the shelving of his ambitious project Karna, a pan-Indian epic, is certainly disappointing for many who were eagerly awaiting this collaboration with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra.

Recently, I had the opportunity to play a pivotal role in the film Kanguva, but the response from both audiences and critics has been somewhat unfavorable. More recently, it appears that the production team has decided not to move forward with my highly anticipated mythological epic Karna.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve noticed that recent chatter on social media suggests a fascinating turn of events: the highly anticipated Suriya-starrer, initially slated with an impressive budget of Rs 350 crores, appears to be put on hold due to its substantial cost. This project, under the direction of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, was envisioned as a two-part epic. However, the high budget seems to have taken a toll, causing this cinematic journey to momentarily pause.

The movie would’ve marked the superstar’s debut in Bollywood, turning it into a nationwide production. Originally planned, Suriya was supposed to portray the main character, with Janhvi Kapoor as Draupadi, but recent news suggests that the project may have been put on hold, although no official confirmation has been given yet.

For the past several weeks, Suriya has been grabbing attention due to the launch of his latest movie, titled “Kanguva”. This movie, which hit the big screens on November 14, 2024, is an epic fantasy-action film under the direction of Siva.

The movie, known for its substantial production budget, featured actors such as Bobby Deol and Disha Patani marking their first appearances in Tamil cinema. Despite this promising start, the film failed to captivate a wide range of viewers, particularly given the high expectations set by its pre-release publicity.

Additionally, it’s been reported that there will be a follow-up to the movie, and actor Karthi is set to star as the primary villain opposite his real-life brother. The film’s producer has recently confirmed this sequel, indicating a potential release in 2026, following director Siva’s completion of a project with Ajith Kumar.

Additionally, you should know that Suriya is gearing up for another big-screen appearance imminently with his upcoming project, provisionally titled Suriya 44. This film, helmed by Karthik Subbaraj, appears to be a blend of romance and action, featuring Pooja Hegde as the leading female character.

Moreover, it’s been disclosed that the upcoming film of the actor, provisionally titled Suriya 45, will be directed by RJ Balaji. Notably, the music for this project will be created by AR Rahman.
