Although details about Luca Guadagnino’s forthcoming American Psycho movie are scarce, the director has shared his affection for the series and explained the reason behind his delayed viewing of the classic 1990 film.
What is Luca Guadagnino’s American Psycho update?
In a conversation with Konbini for their Video Club series, Guadagnino shared that he can’t reveal many details about his upcoming film. However, he did mention that he recently watched the Mary Harron-directed movie, expressing his deep affection for the original Bret Easton Ellis book upon which it is based.
Guadagnino admitted he had limited insights to share about it. He had just watched Mary Harron’s film quite recently, having initially missed it when it was first released. However, he did read the book when it debuted in Italy back in 1990 and even wrote a script for it, as he became deeply engrossed by the storyline. Unfortunately, he felt disappointed when they made the movie, as he harbored ambitions to direct it himself. This is why he delayed watching the film for quite some time. However, there was a possibility that he might eventually take on the project.
It emerged last year that this movie isn’t going to be a remake, but rather an entirely fresh interpretation of Bret Easton Ellis’ 1991 novel. As of now, there’s no details available about the film, such as who might star in it or when production will commence.
According to a recent announcement, Adam Fogelson, head of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, hailed Guadagnino as an exceptionally talented filmmaker, expressing faith that he’d excel in the role.
Fogelson expressed his excitement about welcoming another top-tier director to our forthcoming lineup. “Luca,” he noted, is an extraordinarily talented filmmaker, making him the ideal creative force behind a fresh take on this influential and timeless intellectual property.
Over the past two years, Guadagnino has kept himself quite occupied. In 2022, he unveiled the romantic horror movie titled “Bones and All,” featuring Taylor Russell and TimothĂ©e Chalamet. The following year, he came back with “Challengers,” a romantic sports comedy-drama that starred Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist. Guadagnino didn’t slow down even in 2024; last November, he released the historical romance drama “Queer.
As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that Burns has recently earned credit as the creator of the Apple TV+ limited series Extrapolations. This isn’t his first ride on the success train; he’s also been recognized for his contributions to several prominent films. What’s more, I can hardly contain my excitement over his upcoming Netflix creation, Thumblite!
