Christy Blankenship’s murder: How did she die & who killed her?

In Baker City, Oregon on August 26, 2010, as reported by KVAL, Kevin Blankenship was accused of murdering his newly-wedded wife, Christy Blankenship. The chilling details unfolded in a true crime episode, revealing that Christy, who had spent most of her life in Springfield, was discovered with a fatal gunshot wound to the head shortly after their wedding ceremony.

The Columbian reported that Kevin initially claimed to law enforcement that he unintentionally fired his rifle, striking a 38-year-old woman named Christy. He maintained this was an accident. Initially, Kevin pleaded not guilty but later altered his plea in January 2011. As per Baker County District Attorney Matt Shirtcliff, Darrin, Christy’s brother, was set to testify that he received a phone call from Kevin following the shooting. According to this testimony, Kevin shot Christy because she intended to file for divorce.

I followed the progression of Kevin’s court case closely, as reported by KVAL. His lawyer argued in court that Kevin was experiencing delusions, but according to Dan Cronin, his defense attorney, Kevin underwent an evaluation and was deemed capable of helping with his own defense. Eventually, Kevin admitted guilt for shooting and killing his wife, Christy, as detailed in The Columbian. He received a minimum sentence of 25 years in prison for the murder.

As a dedicated gamer and true crime enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that starting from July 28, 2024, at 9 p.m. Eastern Time, I’ll be tuning in every Sunday night to Investigation Discovery for the latest installment of American Monster’s “Til Death Do Us Part.” Get ready for another gripping season filled with real-life stories of love gone terribly wrong.
