Lately, there was an unexpected encounter between two planes – one from American Airlines and another from United Airlines – at the Chicago airport, causing quite a buzz on various online platforms. What happened to the American Airlines and United Airlines planes?
Lately, an American Airlines jet accidentally hit the rear end of a United Airlines plane at the O’Hare International Airport in Chicago.
According to NBC Chicago’s report, both planes – American Airlines Flight 1979 and United Airlines Flight 219 – were preparing for movement on the runway. The former was gearing up for takeoff to Los Angeles International Airport, while the latter was heading towards Honolulu International Airport.
According to a statement released by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on their official website, it was confirmed that American Airlines Flight 1979 collided with the tail of United Airlines Flight 219 while both planes were taxiing. This incident took place at Chicago O’Hare International Airport around 9:50 AM local time on Wednesday, January 8th.
Furthermore, it was revealed that an investigation would be conducted by the FAA. They explained, “An American Airlines Boeing 737-800 was en route to Los Angeles, while a United Airlines Boeing 787 was bound for Honolulu. The FAA will look into this matter. After the crash, both planes were swapped out for others. Additionally, the 293 passengers and 10 crew members scheduled on the United Airlines flight were transferred to a different aircraft instead.
NBC Chicago reported that fortunately, no one was hurt as a result of the collision. American Airlines issued an apology for the incident, expressing regret over the inconvenience it caused. Moreover, they disclosed that the passengers were swiftly evacuated from the plane.
