AMD has disclosed that the upcoming Ryzen 9 9950X3D is expected to perform similarly to the highly acclaimed 9800X3D, known for its exceptional value in gaming CPUs. Yet, it’s important to note that the new processor might not excel in every PC gaming situation.
AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D doesn’t beat everything
In conversation with VideoGamer, AMD’s Product and Business Development Manager Martijn Boonstra disclosed that the upcoming processors, the 9950X3D and 9900X3D, are anticipated to deliver gaming performance comparable to the 9800X3D. However, it is expected that these new CPUs will carry higher price tags.
Boonstra further explained that some games may run slightly smoother if they use more processor cores and threads, while others might have a slight decrease in performance when optimized for a single central processing chip with three cluster dies (1CCD). However, overall, the gaming experience should be fairly similar.
The 9800X3D processor is specifically designed for the gaming industry, providing excellent worth due to its ability to overclock. Since its release in November of the previous year, enthusiasts have successfully overclocked the 9800X3D up to a maximum speed of 7.4 GHz, with a stable 6.9 GHz clock speed.
Still a force to be reckoned with
In comparison, the highly touted 9950X3D and the more moderately placed 9900X3D, with the former being marketed as a top-tier model and the latter finding its niche in the middle, outperforms the 9800X3D substantially. This is primarily due to a maximum overclocking speed of 5.7 GHz, which is higher than the 9800X3D’s 5.2 GHz, and an inclusion of 144MB of AMD’s second generation V-Cache, as opposed to the 9800X3D’s 104 MB.
As a gamer, I’ve got to say, when I compare the upcoming flagship CPU, the 9950X3D, with its base model, the 9800X3D, I’m surprised by the subtle differences. The 9950X3D boasts an impressive 8 extra cores and 16 additional threads. I guess I was expecting a bit more of a performance leap, but we’ll have to wait for the launch to see if it can outperform its predecessor in overclocking.
Although the pricing details are still unknown, AMD has shared with us that they will disclose it closer to the product launch. This information is crucial because the 9800X3D offers such a substantial value for money, and AMD would not want to overprice other models to avoid compromising their affordability.
Boonstra stated that the Ryzen 9000X3D Series desktop processors are ideal for both gamers and content creators. Regardless of whether you’re currently using the AM5, AM4, or another platform, these processors will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on you.
Both CPUs are yet to get a release date, but it’s expected they will release in January.
