As a cinephile who has traversed through the labyrinth of Indian cinema for years, I must say that the upcoming release of “All We Imagine As Light” on Disney+ Hotstar, January 3, 2025, is an event I eagerly await. Having followed the career of Payal Kapadia, her Grand Prix win at Cannes and two Golden Globe nominations are testaments to her exceptional storytelling ability.
The critically acclaimed film “All We Imagine As Light,” directed by Payal Kapadia and awarded the Cannes Grand Prix, premiered on Indian screens initially in Kerala on September 21, 2024. Soon, it will also be available for streaming.

In the movie “All We Imagine As Light,” I find myself immersed in the story of two Malayali nurses, Prabha and Anu, who call Mumbai home. While Prabha maintains a steadfast moral compass, Anu embodies the free spirit, even engaging in a clandestine romance with a man.
In the routine of life in Mumbai, Prabha misses her husband dearly, who left for Germany not long after their wedding. Meanwhile, the nursing pair finds themselves assisting Parvaty, a colleague at work, as she battles against greedy developers aiming to knock down her housing complex (chawl).
Nevertheless, complications arise when Parvaty returns to her hometown, with Prabha and Anu assisting her in settling there. The remainder of the film centers around the events that unfold for the two as they arrive in the village, revealing their deep emotions, which illuminate their lives in a fresh way.
In the movie directed by Payal Kapadia, Kani Kusruti and Divya Prabha took on the primary characters. Notable supporting actors included Chhaya Kadam, Hridhu Haroon, Azees Nedumangad, Anand Sami, among others.
In the near future, Kani Kusruti has been spotted headlining the Malayalam movie Mura, helmed by Muhammad Musthafa. This production also starred Hridhu Haroon and Suraj Venjaramoodu in pivotal roles. Notably, Mura was an exhilarating action-thriller. Kani’s next project will be the film Ouseppinte Osyath.
