All Runners in Marathon

In Marathon, we’ll control characters referred to as Runners. These terms can vary based on the games you’re familiar with, but essentially they represent your player characters or agents. Each Runner has a unique set of gear tailored to a distinct gameplay style.

As an eager fan, I’m thrilled to share that Marathon is set to debut with six diverse runners! However, during the livestream on April 12, only four of these runners – Locus, Blackbird, Glitch, and Void – were unveiled as playable characters in the closed alpha starting April 23. While we didn’t receive comprehensive details about their gear, we did get a sneak peek into some aspects of each character.

Locus shines at penetrating enemy Runners’ zones and engaging them directly. Equipped with an energy barrier offering robust protection against incoming attacks, Locus additionally boasts a sprint ability that increases speed but may overheat. It appears we can take on more risk, and given adequate team support, you’ll have enough time to regroup without being penalized by the opposition.

The Blackbird character is equipped with a reconnaissance toolset, scouting and gathering intel about adversary locations, whether they’re controlled by players or AI. The objective for Blackbird gamers is to identify weak points in the enemy formations and capitalize on those vulnerabilities.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but feel excited about Glitch, the agile disruptor we’ve got our eyes on! Her unique ability to derail enemy strategies sets her apart from the rest. The developers have hinted that she might possess superior mobility, suggesting a stronger traversal capability than others in the game. Furthermore, her playstyle seems to be all about getting in, dealing some serious damage, and then swiftly moving to a secondary position, allowing enemies to react first before striking again. This sounds perfect for those who enjoy a fast-paced, hit-and-run gameplay style!

The Fourth and Final Runner, Void, is equipped with a cloaking device that allows him to move towards teammates in need or approach adversaries who deserve retribution. Additionally, he can employ smoke grenades for shielding friendly units and obstructing enemies’ vision.

Here’s what we have so far, but we’ll be expanding this piece with each new tidbit of information regarding The Runners. Look forward to detailed gear analyses once the alpha launches within the coming weeks.
