All American's soft reboot has started! Here's who's in and who's out for season 7

As a gamer who’s seen more episodes of All American than I care to admit (my friends might call it an obsession, but I prefer “dedication”), the sixth season was quite a rollercoaster ride. The almost-perfect ending was just that – almost. Three extra episodes later, we had Spencer and Olivia tying the knot, which felt a bit too much even for a soap opera.

For season 6 of the series “All American,” the narrative took a captivating turn. After 13 episodes, it seemed like a flawless conclusion was in sight as Spencer secured a spot in the NFL, triumphed in the Super Bowl during his rookie year, and proposed to his girlfriend Olivia. However, The CW opted to grant the producers an extra three episodes, resulting in the season finale being the wedding of Spencer and Olivia.

This relates to the fact that Daniel Ezra has shared his intention to depart from the series. Meanwhile, at the end of the show, Laura handed over the Baker house to Jordan and Layla, Patience opted for a performing career, and Cooper was deliberating on which law school to enroll in.

Consequently, Spencer’s departure was an ideal farewell for his NFL journey, paving the way for a fresh start. This development suggests that season 7 might serve as a “soft reset” of the series, and The CW has indeed confirmed this, as the new season will return to the show’s original themes.

All American is taking it back to where it all began: Beverly Hills High and South Crenshaw High. It’s the same heart, same NFL dream, same crosstown rivalry, same messy hormones, ushered in by a new generation of L.A. teens, a new Beverly coach and our OG Vortex fam, who are surprised to find they’re supposed to be the responsible adults now.

So who is coming in and who is out of season 7? Here’s what we know.

Who’s leaving All American?

According to TVLine, an impressive total of five actors will be leaving the show: Samantha Logan as Olivia, Cody Christian playing Asher, Karimah Westbrook as Grace James, Monet Mazur portraying Laura Baker, and Chelsea Tavares in her role as Patience.

Each character’s decision aligns logically with them not returning: Olivia decides to join Spencer in New York, starting their shared life together. Asher prepares for his independent coaching career, while Laura ventures into a fresh chapter of her life, and Patience focuses on her budding music career.

As a dedicated game enthusiast, I can say that every character seems to have their solid reasons for skipping season 7, yet there’s a tantalizing suggestion that a few might make a comeback for a special guest role.

Who’s coming back?

It appears that only three main actors will be reprising their roles: Michael Evans Behling as Jordan, Greta Onieogou as Layla, and Bre-Z as Coop. Additionally, Antonio J. Bell (Khalil) and Alexis Chikaeze (Amina) have been promoted to regular series cast members.

It seems that Jordan and Layla will take center stage in the upcoming series, as they prepare to start a new family while Jordan works at Crenshaw. Meanwhile, Coop is planning to attend a local college with the aim of earning her law degree. While their presence may fill the void left by previous characters’ absences, it’s a positive development that the show will continue running.

Who’s new for All American season 7?

According to TVLine, some new characters are being introduced. Osy Ikhile will take on the role of Cassius Jeremy, who is the newly appointed football coach at Beverly High School. He’s portrayed as a devoted family man and a stern coach, having just moved from Oakland. Coach Jeremy aims to restore Beverly High’s football team to its past success, which might involve challenging South Crenshaw High’s program in any way required.

In the series ‘David Makes Man’, Nathaniel McIntyre takes on a dual role, portraying Kingston Jeremy (also known as KJ) – the son of Coach Jeremy and a new student at Beverly High School. KJ has a single-minded determination to play football professionally in the NFL.

It’s quite probable that we’ll welcome additional characters to the show, creating an entirely fresh cast at both schools. This could mark both an end and a start for All American, offering a chance for the popular series to carry on for a bit longer, presenting a mix of goodbyes and new beginnings.

All American seasons 1-6 are streaming on Netflix.
