Alien: Romulus 2 Update Given by Director Fede Álvarez

Director Fede Álvarez has given an update on Alien: Romulus 2.

In August 2024, the movie titled “Alien: Romulus” was premiered in American cinemas by 20th Century Studios. This science fiction-horror film, helmed by director Álvarez, is placed chronologically between Ridley Scott’s Alien and James Cameron’s Aliens.

At present, a direct follow-up to Alien: Romulus hasn’t been formally approved yet, but director F. Javier Álvarez has expressed interest in expanding the story, possibly focusing on the characters who survived in the 2024 film. Meanwhile, 20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell hinted late last year that plans for an Alien: Romulus sequel are still under development.

In a conversation with Empire Magazine, Álvarez shared the latest status about Alien: Romulus 2’s current development progress.

What did Fede Álvarez say about Alien: Romulus 2?

Co-writer Rodo Sayagues and I are currently developing it, shared Álvarez. We’re thrilled about its potential direction. We’ve essentially covered most of the elements that I’ve long wanted to see in Romulus, and we’ve reintroduced aspects I hadn’t seen for a while. From here on out, we can venture into unexplored territories.

He remarked, “I believe it’s going to be thrilling to embark on an adventure with familiar characters from this film, to a location within the Alien series yet unexplored. The opportunity to uncover unknown mysteries is truly enticing.

Álvarez explains that he and Sayagues aren’t keen on creating an “Alien: Romulus” sequel merely due to financial success of the original; instead, they are actively seeking an engaging narrative to develop if a continuation is to be made.

We might make a sequel given the success of “Romulus,” but only if we have a fantastic idea for it.

Alien: Romulus is now streaming on Hulu.
