Apple TV+ has unveiled the formal trailer for its upcoming sci-fi dark comedy movie titled “Murderbot,” starring Golden Globe winner Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood, Big Little Lies). The ten-part series is set to debut on streaming platforms beginning Friday, May 16, with the first two episodes. Subsequent episodes will be released weekly, every Friday, until July 11.

What happens in the Murderbot trailer?
The video presents Skarsgård, portrayed as a security robot, as one who rebels when he grows tired of observing humankind’s foolish behavior. Additionally, it showcases some thrilling scenes from the series featuring Murderbot, who is on a mission to safeguard humans after being enlisted by them for a perilous journey.
The sci-fi series Murderbot hails from the creative minds of Oscar-nominated duo Chris and Paul Weitz, who are responsible for its writing, direction, and production. This project is an adaptation of Martha Wells’ acclaimed, award-winning book series The Murderbot Diaries, which has garnered both Hugo and Nebula Awards.
Joining the crew are talented actors such as Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, Sabrina Wu, Akshay Khanna, Tattiawna Jones, and Tamara Podemski. The executive producers include Andrew Miano for Depth of Field, David S. Goyer, and Phantom Four’s Keith Levine. Martha Wells herself contributes as a consulting producer.

The series follows a robot designed for security purposes that’s both self-aware and conflicted about human emotions, yet finds itself drawn to helping vulnerable humans. Played by Skarsgård, Murderbot pretends to lack free will while undertaking a perilous mission, all the while yearning for solitude to enjoy future TV dramas and ponder its role in the cosmos.
