Alan Wake and Control to Get TV and Movie Adaptations

As a die-hard fan who has been following the twists and turns of these beloved franchises for years, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and trepidation. On one hand, the partnership between Remedy Entertainment and Annapurna Interactive brings new hope that the long-awaited Alan Wake TV series might finally see the light of day. Six years is a lifetime in the world of gaming, and it feels like we’ve been on this rollercoaster ride since the very first announcement.

In a collaborative effort, Alan Wake and Control series adaptations for television and film, along with other visual media projects, are being developed by Remedy Entertainment in conjunction with Annapurna Interactive. This partnership also boosts the financial support for the sequel of Control, with development already progressing at a rapid pace.

Alan Wake has been heading to TV for years

The long-awaited Alan Wake TV series might finally take shape due to a recent collaboration. First mentioned in 2018, there have been few updates on the show since then. However, in 2022, Remedy Entertainment revealed that AMC had acquired the TV rights, but no progress was made from this deal. Now, Annapurna is stepping in to potentially bring the project back to life.

Sam Lake, Creative Director at Remedy, expressed his tremendous excitement about the prospect of extending the tale of Alan Wake and the entire Remedy Connected Universe across platforms beyond video games, and collaborating on various mediums like films, TV shows, and others, all as part of a single, cohesive vision. He believes Annapurna is an ideal partner to help us bring this vision to life.

Annapurna Interactive is now teaming up with Remedy Entertainment as both producer and financier for the sequel to Control, titled Control 2. This collaboration allows Remedy to proceed enthusiastically on the game’s development, along with their upcoming cooperative PvE game, temporarily named Condor. At this time, there are no new updates available about either game, according to Communications Director Thomas Puha, who suggests that fans should be patient for more information.

This agreement supports Remedy’s shift towards independently publishing their games, with Control 2 being one such self-published title. It’s worth noting that this self-publishing strategy might extend to other games currently in development as well. Additionally, Remedy is also engaged in revamping Max Payne and Max Payne 2 for future releases, alongside Control 2.
