AGDQ: Crazy Taxi Player Has A Live Band With Him To Avoid DMCA Strike

Backseat gaming but with guitar, bass and a singer during this year’s AGDQ.

This year’s Awesome Games Done Quick was filled with music, as one participant showcased a hitless boss performance in Elden Ring using an electric saxophone as their controller. Then came a Crazy Taxi speedrun accompanied by a full live band!

I’m pretty sure they can hear us in Cleveland at this point. #AGDQ2025

A significant factor drawing players to Crazy Taxi is its unique soundtrack, created by bands like Bad Religion and The Offspring. However, it’s worth noting that using this music in video content might trigger a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) claim.

Limiter Cut provided music for chuckles825’s speedrun at AGDQ, switching songs when he finished a level and restarting when he needed to start over, like when he crashed a taxi with grandmas on board.

A challenge for the runner, the band and the audience

Each tune was carefully selected to match both the song’s duration and difficulty, serving as both a vocal challenge for the singer and an endurance test for the entire band. Moreover, the drummer would frequently perform a fragment of “Change the World” during the menu screen’s appearance.

As a gamer, I find that at AGDQ, there are numerous speedrun demonstrations that give you an in-depth look into the game’s underlying mechanics, showing off glitches and shortcuts used for quick completion – these speedruns, however, are more about providing entertainment rather than simply finishing a game quickly. They showcase the depth of creativity and ingenuity within the speedrun community.

Of all the parts from this year’s AGWQ, what was your favorite? Do you think it would be cool to have a live band for other games as well?
