Agatha All Along’s Aubrey Plaza Rumored to Return as Lady Death

There’s talk that Aubrey Plaza could be reprising her role in the MCU, possibly as Death, following a new rumor. Previously, she played the enigmatic Rio Vidal who was later unveiled as Death’s embodiment in “Agatha All Along”. The latest news suggests a potential return and offers an intriguing peek into Marvel’s future plans for this powerful cosmic figure.

Why Aubrey Plaza’s Lady Death could return in MCU

The report is based on Lizzie Hill’s Q&A session held in April 2025 on The Cosmic Circus, during which she said, “It’s been mentioned that she might reappear,” when asked about the possibility of Rio Vidal (Plaza’s character) returning after the end of the Disney+ series.

In the captivating world of Agatha All Along, I stepped into the shoes of a character named Rio Vidal. As the story unfolded, it was revealed that my character was none other than the personification of Death herself. The series concluded with what seemed like my demise, but whispers of survival and potential return have lingered on.

Despite the apparent death of her character on screen, there are rumblings that Marvel may resurrect her, although nothing has been confirmed yet. Back in September 2024, whispers began about the possibility of Aubrey Plaza returning to the Marvel universe, with sources like Daniel Richtman hinting she could appear in additional Marvel projects (according to Patreon).

Although the report didn’t clarify if Rachel McAdams might expand her roles beyond Disney+ or how extensive they might be, her previous remarks about her character being “really pivotal” hint that Rio Vidal could play a more significant part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future (as reported by GQ).

In the story called “Agatha All Along”, the character Agatha Harkness (played by Kathryn Hahn) took charge of a coven as they embarked on a magical quest along the Witches Path. Later in the plot, it was revealed that the character Joe Locke played was actually Billy Maximoff, who engaged in a dramatic fight against Death and emerged victorious. The final scene showed Agatha giving up her physical self and transforming into a ghostly mentor, which could suggest a follow-up where Billy seeks his missing twin brother, Tommy.

Hill’s remark lends credence to the continuing theory that Plaza might resurface in another series focusing on Agatha and Billy, as Marvel Studios is currently shooting Vision Quest – a show revolving around Vision. Given that Billy and Tommy are Vision’s sons in the MCU, there’s a chance for a crossover or a reoccurrence of Death in this narrative.

Plaza’s return has not been confirmed by Marvel Studios.
