Agatha All Along: Why Doesn’t Anyone Say Wanda’s Name in Westview?

As a seasoned Marvel fan with over two decades of comics, movies, and series under my belt, I must say that Agatha All Along is a captivating addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The intricate storytelling and character development have left me hooked.

In the latest installment of ‘Agatha All Along’, also known as ‘Agnes in Westview’, viewers are left puzzled as to why the residents of Westview can’t mention Wanda’s name. This series unfolds three years after the events depicted in ‘WandaVision’. Agatha, who has now taken on the guise of Agnes, embarks on a detective journey that takes a dramatic turn when she becomes embroiled in an unsettling murder case within Westview, causing her life to spiral out of control.

As the program progresses and repeatedly hints at Wanda, viewers are particularly curious about why no one seems to mention her by name. So, let’s explore the reasons behind this curiosity.

Why don’t the Westview residents say Wanda’s name in Agatha All Along?

After the occurrences in WandaVision, where she exerted mental and physical control over an entire town, her name has become associated with distressing memories, fear, and trauma for many. Consequently, the residents of Westview no longer view her as a hero but rather a negative influence, and they tend to avoid mentioning her name.

In the narrative of Agatha All Along, three years have passed since the events depicted in WandaVision, where viewers witnessed a fierce battle between Agatha and Wanda for control. By applying Agatha’s own wisdom against her, she unintentionally draws all her magical powers into herself, transforming her into the Scarlet Witch. As retribution, she erases her memories, leaving her stranded in Westview as the pesky neighbor, Agnes, while remaining oblivious to her antagonistic role in the lives of Westview’s residents. Although she vanquishes the story’s villain, she initially doesn’t realize that she has been a menacing presence in the lives of Westview’s inhabitants.

In a perfect world, Wanda lived harmoniously with Vision within Westview; however, this tranquility came at the expense of manipulating everything inside Westview through her abilities. She constructed an illusion, trapping everyone within it, both physically and mentally. Initially unaware, she came to understand in her last moments that she had caused harm to others. In response, Vision implored Wanda to lift her spell and set the innocent free. Reluctantly, she consented, giving up her husband and children in the process. However, she departed from Westview and wasn’t celebrated as a hero for making any sacrifices.

In the continuation of Agatha All Along within Westview, it’s evident that the townsfolk are still shaken by the Scarlet Witch. Consequently, they refrain from mentioning her name outright. Furthermore, a subtle hint appears in Episode 2 where “the wicked witch” and Wanda’s emblem are spray-painted on the foundation of her previous residence. This suggests that the locals now view her as malevolent due to her displayed dominance and destructive behavior in the Disney Plus series.
