After nearly 30 years buried in Bethesda lore, ex-dev isn’t sure what to make of The Elder Scrolls 6: “They’re making something different than what I would have done, and so I don’t know how I’m going to feel”

Anticipation for the latest installment in The Elder Scrolls series, The Elder Scrolls 6, lingers on, and Bethesda Game Studios veteran Kurt Kuhlmann finds himself unsure of his emotions as he looks forward to the upcoming role-playing game.

In a recent YouTube interview with Reece “Kiwi Talkz” Reilly, Kuhlmann (the lore master known for working on games like Oblivion and Skyrim) expressed that his feelings about the upcoming Elder Scrolls game might be similar to how he felt about another title he wasn’t directly involved in himself – The Elder Scrolls Online.

He remembers saying, “They handle things independently; they have unique thoughts and concepts. Now, we no longer oversee it.

He goes on to say, “It’s been launched now, and they’ll create something distinct from what we had planned – which doesn’t necessarily imply it’s inferior, of course.

It appears that the development for the sixth installment of The Elder Scrolls series by the ex-Bethesda developers is following a familiar pattern. As Kuhlmann put it, “The Elder Scrolls 6, business as usual.” This means they’re creating something other than what he would have made, so he’s unsure about his reaction once he sees the final product.

As a former developer, I’ll encounter The Elder Scrolls 6 just as everyone else will, with no prior knowledge of its content: “For me, it’s going to be a fresh, unknown experience… I have absolutely no clue about the game itself.

As a gamer, I’m just fine with not having all the answers. It might even be better this way, you know? Even if they let me in on the secrets, there’s little I could do to change things anyway.

He concludes, “If I like it or dislike it, it’s out of my hands.”
