As a seasoned gamer and sci-fi aficionado with decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of epic universes that promised to revolutionize the genre. However, Rebel Moon, billed as the “Star Wars of Netflix,” seems to have missed the mark for me.
As a passionate gamer, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of “Rebel Moon,” dubbed as the “Netflix’s Star Wars” with a grittier edge. With a whopping $166 million budget for two films, Netflix handed over a substantial sum to Zack Snyder, allowing him to construct his own captivating sci-fi universe. However, after the release of two movies and two director’s cuts, it appears that this project isn’t quite hitting the mark Netflix had hoped for.
“We Have Star Wars At Home”
As a dedicated gamer, I was thrilled when I heard about Zack Snyder’s brainchild for the Star Wars universe. The anticipation was high, and with such a promising concept, it seemed destined to captivate sci-fi enthusiasts like myself. However, as they say, with great expectations come great responsibility. Unfortunately, Rebel Moon, the initial installment, didn’t quite hit the mark, earning a mere 22% approval from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. On August 2, 2024, Rebel Moon – Part One: Director’s Cut and Rebel Moon – Part Two: Director’s Cut were simultaneously released. Despite garnering a slightly improved rating compared to the original version, both films were criticized by critics as mediocre and received only average reviews from viewers. With a combined runtime of approximately 6.5 hours, one might question whether it is worth investing that much time into these movies.
Is This The End?
In an interview with radiotimes.com, Snyder expressed that he has concepts for either two or four additional films. It’s possible he held back some great elements for future projects. Here’s hoping…
