AEW Star Says He Can’t Imagine John Cena Leaving WWE

As a gamer who’s been through countless WWE games, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia when it comes to John Cena‘s retirement announcement. I remember my first WWE game where I played as Cena, his theme song echoing through my headphones as I wrestled my way to the top. His charisma, resilience, and undeniable charm have been a staple in the world of professional wrestling for over two decades.

The ex-champion of All Elite Wrestling (AEW) recently expressed opinions about John Cena wrestling outside of WWE. For more than a decade, John Cena has been the embodiment of the WWE brand, serving as its main promotional figure and iconic symbol. Despite his part-time status due to his acting commitments, his influence continues to resonate strongly in the present.

In July, during WWE’s Money in the Bank event, John Cena announced that he would be retiring from active wrestling with WWE by the year 2025. This marks the start of a one-year farewell tour, which will culminate with his final match at WrestleMania 41, following several appearances throughout 2025. Fans can look forward to witnessing Cena compete in events like the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber before this grand finale. The tour is expected to include around 30-40 appearances, starting with the inaugural episode of Raw on Netflix in January 2025.

In the course of his entire professional wrestling journey within the WWE arena, John Cena has drawn remarks from a past adversary, Chris Jericho. Jericho expressed that it’s hard for him to visualize Cena engaging in wrestling matches beyond the confines of the WWE.

Throughout their professional wrestling careers, Jericho and Cena have frequently squared off against each other on numerous occasions. In 2005, a significant part of their rivalry unfolded when Jericho challenged Cena for the WWE Championship during SummerSlam. Furthermore, in 2008, after recovering from an injury, Cena confronted Jericho for the World Heavyweight Championship at the Survivor Series event.

Chris Jericho opens up about John Cena’s retirement

More recently, Chris Jericho, a previous AEW World Champion, was featured in Sports Illustrated. In the interview, he voiced his conviction that John Cena won’t participate in WWE’s rivalry, considering Cena as an authentic WWE personality. Jericho would find it hard to imagine Cena working elsewhere, and he also extended his congratulations on Cena’s exceptional career accomplishments.

He clearly expressed that John is deeply rooted in the world of WWE, and it would shock me if he ever ventured outside of it. Kudos to him for his remarkable career. I fondly remember our matches. It’s not as though he’s retiring – he has numerous projects underway, and I wish him nothing but success.

As we countdown the remaining months until 2025, there’s been plenty of buzz among fans about who might challenge John Cena for his last match in WWE. Some popular guesses include Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Randy Orton, and Bron Breakker.
