At AEW Worlds End last weekend, Adam Cole squared off against his ex-best friend MJF in a battle for the Dynamite Diamond Ring. Over the past year, their rivalry has seen significant transformation.

Last year at AEW Worlds End, Adam Cole left fans stunned when he unveiled himself as the Devil and switched allegiances to become a villain alongside his new group, Undisputed Kingdom. Meanwhile, MJF had to take a break due to an injury after Cole betrayed him. He made a comeback at Double or Nothing, however, in an unexpected twist, he adopted a villainous role.

Adam Cole, recovering from an injury, adopted the role of a fan favorite (babyface) in wrestling. In October, he reignited his rivalry with MJF upon his comeback to AEW WrestleDream. However, despite his attempts, Cole was unable to arrange a match against MJF at Full Gear 2024. Instead, his teammate Roderick Strong took the challenge but couldn’t defeat MJF during Full Gear in November.

Eager to square off against MJF, Adam Cole emerged victorious in the AEW Dynamite Dozen Battle Royale. After securing this victory, he also bested Kyle O’Reilly at AEW Dynamite Winter Is Coming a few weeks back. However, at AEW Worlds End, Cole met MJF but was surprised with a defeat instead.

Towards the end of the game, MJF tricked the referee and arranged for Adam Cole’s teammates, Matt Taven and Mike Bennett, to be kicked out of ringside. Seizing the opportunity, MJF aimed to use the Dynamite Diamond Ring against Cole. But Cole anticipated this move and struck back with a powerful superkick instead.

Despite that, MJF retaliated with a sneaky punch, then used a Heatseeker to seal the win. Even though Cole couldn’t outsmart MJF, he continues to strive towards his ultimate ambition. Prior to AEW Worlds End, Cole disclosed his strategy to claim the AEW World Championship by 2025.

In an interview before his fight with MJF on “Going Ringside”, Adam Cole expressed his main aim for the year 2025. He openly talked about his aspiration to win the AEW World Championship, stating that this goal has been a long-held dream since he became part of the promotion.

He clearly expressed that once he wraps up with Maxwell Jacob Friedman, which he’s been aiming to do since joining AEW, his ambition remains unchanged – to become the AEW World Champion. Despite not securing victory against MJF during their recent encounter at Worlds End, it will be intriguing to see what lies ahead for him in the coming years.
