Adidas Joins Forces with Crypto Fitness App Stepn to Launch NFTs and Merchandise

Sports apparel giant Adidas is teaming up with Move-to-Earn platform Stepn, based on Solana, merging the realms of sportswear and Web3 as of April 15, 2024. This groundbreaking collaboration offers an engaging fusion of fitness and crypto for both enthusiasts of working out and digital currency.

The partnership kicks off with a limited collection of 1,000 NFTs named “Stepn x Adidas Genesis Sneakers.” Inspired by Adidas’ renowned running shoe designs, these NFTs mark the start of a year-long collaboration. As stated by Stepn, users can look forward to additional NFT drops and real-life merchandise during the partnership.

Stepn announced that the “Genesis Collection” is the initial collaboration between their brand and Adidas, marking the start of a year-long partnership. Throughout this period, there are plans for more NFT releases and real-life merchandise, including wearable items, to be unveiled.

On April 17, 2024, through Stepn’s related platform, Mooar NFT marketplace, Adidas will introduce the Genesis collection. This is a notable achievement for Adidas, as they have previously explored the crypto and Web3 realm by collaborating with Coinbase, the famous Bored Ape Yacht Club, and even luxury car manufacturer Bugatti.

Fitness Meets Crypto Rewards

Stepn’s chosen collaborator, Stepn, holds a significant role in the move-to-earn (M2E) sector. Through this groundbreaking app, users are incentivized with cryptocurrency (GMT tokens) for engaging in outdoor activities like walking or running. With over 5 million registered members, Stepn made headlines in 2022 by teaming up with the renowned footwear brand Asics.

The partnership between the popular lifestyle app and Adidas marks a significant change in the move-to-earn sector. Through this strategic alliance, the seamless blend of digital and physical experiences offered by the app and the respected brand Adidas, highlights the evolution of reward systems in our daily lives.

Shiti Manghani, CEO of Stepn, hinted in a press release that merging physical and digital elements (phygital collaboration) in their M2E apps could broaden its user base beyond crypto fanatics. This expansion would draw fitness enthusiasts looking for extra motivation and potential unique incentives.

Adidas & Stepn’s Year-Long Plan

Beyond the first release of NFTs, Adidas and Stepn’s year-long partnership offers intriguing possibilities. Their plan includes the potential introduction of real-life Adidas merchandise, enhancing the digital NFTs. This combination could lead to a distinct phygital (physical and digital) experience for collectors and fitness enthusiasts.

The success of this partnership hinges on the crypto market’s ability to bounce back and the level of user acceptance. While Stepn has made impressive strides, there are doubts about M2E models and in-app token worth. Yet, this collaboration represents a brave move into fitness, fashion, and Web3, opening doors to engaging and possibly profitable workout sessions.
