As a dedicated follower of the Telugu film industry, I have witnessed many controversies over the years. However, the recent allegations against producer Aswini Dutt by veteran actor Radha Ravi are particularly disheartening. Having grown up in this industry and seen its inner workings, I cannot help but be concerned about the potential for caste-based discrimination that these allegations suggest.
Producer Aswini Dutt, known for hit movie Kalki 2898 AD, is facing accusations. Radha Ravi, an experienced actor, has made severe claims against him. The actor alleges that Aswini discriminated based on caste, resulting in Radha being excluded from a film production.
Radha Ravi accuses Aswini Dutt of being a casteist
Based on Indiaglitz’s report, Radha Ravi shared a story from 1986 during the production of Kaliyuga Pandavulu in Vizag. He mentioned that Aswini Dutt had planned to include him in one of his films at the time.
Radha Rivi, with a close relationship to K. Raghavendra Rao in the Telugu film world, shared with Aswini Dutt that any decisions concerning Radha Ravi’s participation would necessitate Raghavendra Rao’s consent. Nonetheless, Aswini Dutt instructed his assistant to arrange for Radha Rivi’s casting. However, a surprising development occurred when Aswini Dutt inquired about Radha Rivi’s caste.
When Radha Ravi was removed from the film
Upon learning that Radha Ravi might belong to the Balija Naidu caste, Aswini Dutt reportedly became silent and abruptly canceled all plans to include the actor in his films, without offering any further clarification or explanation. Radha Ravi was left baffled by his sudden change of heart, particularly since no reason was given for the cancellation.
When Radha Ravi challenged K. Raghavendra Rao over the situation, Rao appeared puzzled and admitted not knowing what led Aswini Dutt to make that particular decision. This event has sparked worries about potential prejudice based on caste infiltrating the film industry.
Aswini Dutt’s big win with Kalki 2898 AD
In the year 2898 AD, Kalki is a groundbreaking mytho-sci-fi film that has left audiences around the world captivated. Its breathtaking visual effects, engrossing plot, and outstanding acting have made it an international phenomenon. The movie rules the Indian box office in all languages and is doing exceptionally well overseas as well. To put it into perspective, this sci-fi adventure has earned approximately ₹1000 crore ($1.32 billion USD) worldwide.
In this film, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and other notable actors appear with significant parts.
