ABC 20/20’s Lock the Door Behind You: Where Is Serial Killer Henry Wallace Now?

As a true crime enthusiast and avid fan of ABC’s 20/20, I eagerly anticipate the upcoming episode of “Lock the Door Behind You,” which delves into the chilling story of serial killer Henry Louis Wallace. The chilling image of Wallace’s mugshot, with his cold, calculating eyes, still haunts me from previous episodes.

As a true crime enthusiast who has spent countless hours delving into the darkest corners of human behavior, I am always on the lookout for new and compelling stories that offer insights into the minds of those who have committed heinous acts. That’s why I’m particularly excited about ABC 20/20’s upcoming episode, “Lock the Door Behind You,” which reexamines the chilling case of serial killer Henry Wallace.

Henry Wallace, currently serving time on death row for multiple murders, had a prior relationship with many of his victims. He interacted with them at various fast-food establishments where they became friends. Tragically, these friendships later turned fatal as Wallace brutally took their lives, unaware to the women of the danger lurking in their acquaintance. Wallace’s killing spree took place during the 1990s, concluding in 1994. Law enforcement eventually apprehended him and he admitted to murdering ten women in North Carolina and one in South Carolina. A jury ultimately found him guilty of nine murders in 1997, resulting in nine death sentences.

Where is confessed serial killer Henry Wallace now?

In an exclusive 20/20 broadcast this Friday at 9/8c on ABC, or stream it on Hulu, Henry Wallace confesses to having taken the lives of ten women between 1990 and 1994. Rare footage includes Wallace discussing these heinous crimes.

Based on ABC News reports, Henry Louis Wallace is currently serving life in Raleigh’s Central Prison after confessing to his crimes. These crimes will be highlighted in an upcoming episode of ABC 20/20 titled “Lock the Door Behind You.” The program includes interviews with friends and family members of Wallace’s victims.

In an upcoming episode of People Magazine, Tyrece Woods is revealed as one of the individuals sharing his story. At the time of the tragic event in 1994, Woods was just a 10-month-old baby residing with his mother, Brandi June Henderson, in their Charlotte, North Carolina, home. On the evening of March 8, 1994, an unidentified serial killer entered their house and brutally assaulted Henderson, who was 18 years old at the time. The attacker raped Henderson before taking her life by strangulation. Simultaneously, Woods suffered the same fate but miraculously survived the vicious assault.

Woods, now an adult, spoke honestly to ABC 20/20 about feeling suicidal for a prolonged period. However, he expressed that, as he gained more knowledge, taking his own life would be too self-centered. Brandi June Henderson had worked tirelessly to keep him alive, and so he survived instead of dying. He further shared, “I went through all of that, so I owe it to her to do something remarkable. I need to accomplish something that will make her proud.”

In 1993, Dee Sumpter penned a letter to the individual who took her daughter Shawna Hawk’s life, urging them to confess to the authorities. Catch “Lock the Door Behind You,” our 20/20 episode about Sumpter’s pursuit of justice, this Friday on ABC. Available for streaming on Hulu.

ABC 20/20’s “Lock the Door Behind You” features an interview with Dee Sumpter, whose daughter Shawna Hawk was another victim of Henry Wallace. In this episode, which aired in 2022, there are also interviews with the investigators who worked on the case and the prosecutor. Additionally, Henry Wallace’s high school peers will share their perspectives, as well as journalists who covered the murders.

I was following the latest developments in the chilling case of Brandi Henderson’s murder. According to reports, a prosecutor named Marsha Goodenow shed some light on how investigators connected the dots leading to the arrest of the prime suspect, Wallace.

Back in 1990, I was just a regular gamer living in Barnwell, South Carolina. Little did I know that a deadly figure named Henry Wallace was lurking around our town, committing his first murder. Unfortunately, authorities didn’t catch him back then, and he got away with it. Afterward, he moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he continued his killing spree. Looking back, Dee Sumpter and others believe that if the police had made those “obvious connections,” they could have put a stop to Wallace’s crime wave right there in Barnwell.

ABC 20/20’s episode Lock the Door Behind You will air on Friday, July 19, at 9 p.m. ET.
