Abbott Elementary’s Quinta Brunson Shares Details About Always Sunny Crossover Episode

As a seasoned gamer of both the small and big screens, I must say that this upcoming crossover between Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is nothing short of a dream come true! Growing up in Philly myself, these two shows have been a staple in my comedy diet, and to see them intertwine is like witnessing the perfect fusion of West Philly and South Philly humor.

Quinta Brunson, star of ‘Abbott Elementary’, has disclosed fresh insights regarding the forthcoming episode of ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ that will feature a crossover.

Just recently, the official confirmation came through that the fourth season of Abbott Elementary will include a special crossover episode with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Rob McElhenney, the writer and lead actor of a popular FX sitcom for many years, announced the news by posting on social media an image with his co-stars Charlie Day and Danny Devito standing alongside Tyler James Williams from Abbott Elementary and William Stanford Davis.

In episode 409 of Abbott Elementary, it has been confirmed that members of the Always Sunny cast, including Glenn Howerton and Kaitlin Olson, will make an appearance. This was revealed by executive producer Patrick Schumacker.

What did Quinta Brunson say about the Abbott Elementary Always Sunny crossover episode?

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Brunson expressed that the idea of collaborating on a crossover episode with Always Sunny seemed naturally fitting from the get-go.

Rob McElhenney received a message online suggesting an amusing idea for an It’s Always Sunny episode. He responded by expressing his belief that it would be suitable for an Abbott episode instead. This interaction initiated a conversation between them. Interestingly, the proposed episode had no connection to what was sent to him initially, but it did lead to some engaging discussions. To put it simply, they started chatting more due to this exchange, and I must say, I admire Rob. We share similarities as writers, creators of shows, comedy enthusiasts, and Philly natives. Our connection was instant, and we soon found ourselves seriously considering the potential for collaboration. Since we’re both under the Disney umbrella, we believed we could bring this idea to life.

“They come from different parts of Philadelphia, but our shows share a common ground. It was easy for their characters to intersect naturally. When we realized this, we knew we had to make it happen. So, at the start of this season for Abbott, we began planning because Sunny was just starting to write their season. Charlie and Rob joined us one day, and they were fantastic collaborators. They’ve been a pleasure to work with, and they’re helping to revitalize our world while ours does the same for theirs. It’s been a wonderful experience, and most importantly, we all share a love for comedy and creating something exciting with it. Working together has been magical.

Yesterday, on October 9, 2024, the initial episode of Abbott Elementary’s fourth season aired. From then on, fresh episodes will be released every Wednesday.
